My First Hole in One
By Steve D On 17 August 2015
Every year at Glen Ellen CC we host a heated 3 round tournament with the 2 inner club member teams. The enemy? The RoadRunners. The good guys? The Little Bobs. The trophy? The Glen Cup. Going into the final single matches on Sunday 8/16/15, we (Little Bobs) had a commanding lead, but that's no excuse to lose your match. Giving two shots, I fought from 4-down to get the match all square going to the 17th tee. Using strokes to his advantage, my opponent drains his 4 net 3 to go one up heading into the Par-3 18th. Playing 160yds into a slight wind, my opponent puts his tee ball short right missing the green. Knowing I had to give myself the best chance to make 3, I grabbed a 9-iron. I wanted to hit it just past the flag and use the hill as a back stop leaving me a guaranteed 3. We were the 3rd to last match, and the rest of our teams gathered around the green to watch. I focused on making a smooth swing, maintaining my tempo and what do you know i hit it flush right at the flag. I see it bounce, once past the flag, one more time, then zip back, some one in the crowd screams "GET IN THE HOLE!" and bam! It drops!!! In front of 40 people, to half my match, we bring home the Glen Cup and I couldn't have been more excited for my first hole in one.
