Older. Wiser. Luckier.

I began golfing in Arizona in my late 20s. Played as much as twice a week and sometimes in distant lands such as Saudi Arabia and West Germany as I traveled nearly half of my working life. I even teed off at 10:00 PM in Fairbanks Alaska during June when the sun never sets. Great fun but never an Ace. I retired in 2015 and found that I could play 3-4 times a week and this sharpened my desire and focus to finally get an ace. We moved to our first retirement home in Brunswick Forest Leland, NC, home of Cape Fear National. There my first ace was recorded on the 14th hole on a cool cloudy windy day with a Pro V1. The hole was playing 150-ish yards uphill against the wind. My witnesses were a couple visiting from Minnesota and it was their first time seeing a hole-in-one. Now four years later I was playing in the 90° heat at Farmstead Golf in Calabash NC. Using a Titleist AVX, I hit it 117 yards into the cup just clearing the sand trap. My witnesses included one of my neighbors from Brunswick Forest and his brother in law. Their first witnessing an Ace.
