Playing through the cold pays off

It was 38 degrees in Southern Pines, NC today, and with holiday errands stacking up it looked like a round of golf would have to wait. After getting a few items on the to-do list taken care of, I decided to head to Southern Pines Golf Club around 2pm to see how many holes I could get in before the sun set. When we pulled into the parking lot there were only 2 other cars so I was optimistic that we could get a full round in. Boy was that worth it! The seventh hole is an uphill par 3, with a severe fall-off short on the left side. I shot the yardage at 158, putting me between clubs. I decided to go with the 6-iron since there was trouble short and the ball wasn't traveling as far today. There is also a ridge in the green, so if I wanted to get to the back pin the extra club wouldn't hurt. I struck the ball well with a draw, and saw it run up over the ridge. After that, it's blind from the tee so I took an anxious ride towards the hole. As we approached, there was no ball visible on the green, so I raced towards the pin. Sure enough, there was a ProV1x #3 sitting at the bottom of the cup! It was my first ace, and one I won't soon forget. After a few nervous holes, I got things back on track with 3 birdies on the back to shoot 72. We were the only group on the course and the bar was closed, so we had to make a trip down the road for celebratory drinks. What a day!
