I have played golf for forty years and never had a hole-in-one. My handicap has ranged anywhere from 0-8 over the years. I have had multiple shots lip out, hit the pin, hang on the lip, and even a few fly into the hole and come back out. I have made a double eagle - but never a hole-in-one until this past weekend. I was on a golf trip with about 100 other guys and we had a shotgun start on the 12th hole. It was the second 18 of the day and it was the first shot of the round. Shape of shot was as planned but, frankly, caught it a little thin. Landed short and rolled toward pin and hit it dead solid and dropped in. Wasn't the most pure shot, but since I had so many near misses prior to that - I didn't care. I won closest to the pin competition and a skin for my efforts but it didn't cover the cost for the drinks afterward. Two hours later, on another par 3 I hit an even better shot that landed short and headed directly for the pin. We thought for a minute that my forty year wait for the first would turn into a two hour wait for my second. Alas, we got to the green and it was less than a foot short - directly in line with pin! Oh well, it probably saved me a little money...
