"Dream Ace"
By Jeffrey M On 31 October 2016
I am 60 yeas old and have been golfing for 36 years. I raised two sons who golfed in college and my daughter-in-law is head women's golf coach for West Texas A&M University. I retired five year ago and until then I was a 15-20 rounds per year golfer. Since retiring, I play 3-4 days per week. While many of my friends have had one or more holes in one, I always had doubts that I would ever have one. I feared that if I ever did, I would skull it off the tee and it would roll all the way to the hole. My "Dream Ace" on the other hand was to knock it past the hole and back it in. Well, on September 6th that "Dream Ace" came true. I hit a Titleist Pro V1 with a cally X20 seven iron off the tee from 158 yards. I struck the ball well so I knew I'd have a decent birdie attempt. I never dreamed the ball would go in the hole. My golf partners hit from the forward tees so they were near their carts at a different angle than I. When the ball went in, they shouted it out. Unfortunately I did not see the ball fall in as there is a swell on the green between me and the hole. When I arrived at the green, I found my ball in the hole and my deep ball mark about 30" directly behind the hole. My "Dream Ace" came true! While I was excited; I guess I was a little numb to it as I was ready to move on to the next hole and tee off with the same ball. My partners said "No Way!" and told me I needed to put the ball and scorecard in a shadowbox. I am glad they were so excited but seemed like a little too much celebration for me. I even had to track down my bar tab receipt to verify the actual date. Thinking back; I am grateful for their excitement and very grateful for getting my "Dream Ace". I just hope I don't have to wait another 36 years for my next one!
