Rainy day on the East Course

It was the 1st chilly day in the Washington, DC area. I was playing with a childhood friend, David Lawrence and a couple of guys from Korea, Jay and Tom. We are all ex-military. The President, cabinet members and top military play there often. There are three courses, East, West and South (the South was built during the 1st president Bush's term because he played a lot and they won't let anyone else on the course while the Pres. plays). I just missed Obama and Clinton the week before. Anyway, the high was only going to be 60 degrees with rain that Saturday. I started the 1st 4 holes with bogeys. I couldn't buy a putt. I was on the 5th green in two and had a difficult 15 footer just below the ridge my ball sat on. The putt went in as it gained speed toward the hole. Good thing the hole was in it's path because it was moving fast downhill! I was able to get the yardage with my laser in the overcast on the 6th tee. 140 to the flag. Pin in front on a moderate incline to the front. I squared my 9 iron and aimed at the right edge of the greed for a slight draw (pin in the middle front). Two practice swings with no hesitation I took my shot. I could feel great contact and looked up to see the ball on a good line that kept getting better. It hit the damp green about a yard behind the pin. About two seconds later we could see the ball inching downhill toward the hole. After about 4 more seconds the ball disappeared into the hole! I jumped around like a nut while getting high fives from the group. The group ahead of us on the next tee could tell what just happened as we celebrated and extended congrats as we passed each other. I ended up with a birdie on the 7th hole also to complete a great 3-hole stretch on difficult holes. I didn't do much after that and ended up with a round of 88. I didn't mind. With the weather and excitement I just wanted to tell everyone I could that I just had my 1st hole in one! That ball kept enough spin on that wet green to propel it downhill. I've seen a lot hit and end up next to the ball mark. I had switched to Pro V1 only two weeks earlier. I must say I have had better perforance with the driver also. Thanks Titleist for a great experience!
