Super Surprise

My friend Jim called to invite me to join the neihbors in a round of golf at Bethpage state park, New York on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012. We had reservations for the blue course and we were able to tee off on time. Holes 1 and 2 proved to be a little challenging since most of our tee shots were not landing on the fairway. As we approached the third hole/180 yd. par 3,the number of golfers waiting to tee off started to grow. After about a 10 min. wait, the group ahead of us on the green were nice enough to step aside and waive us up. All three of my friend's tee shots missed to the right, and as I approched the tee box, I thought that I would pull a "little more club" and hit a nice easy 2 hybrid. It was an elevated tee, and I was hitting to an elevated green. When I hit the ball,it launched straight as a laser, right at the pin. It hit on the front fringe, bounced once or twice and started to roll up towards the hole. The guys ahead, that had stepped off, were lining the green and started yelling that it was a great shot. My partners were shouting that it could be "in the hole",(yea, right!) As the ball started to slow down, I reached down to pick up my tee and when I looked up, the ball was no longer on the green and the guys up ahead were jumping up and down and hooting and hollering! It had gone in! That was the most amazing moment that I have ever had on a golf course, and the fact that I was able to share it with my friends made it that much more enjoyable. Oh, by the way, the ball I was using was a beautiful Pro v-1, #4.
