On Saturday, January 7th I flew to Orlando, Florida from Washington, D.C. for a week of golf. My first round was on Sunday, January 8th at Hunter's Creek Golf Club. I was playing in a threesome with a husband and wife. There was a slow foursome several holes ahead, and we eventually caught up with a twosome in front of us. Since play was so slow we all decided to play the remaining four holes on the front side as a fivesome. I was the last to hit on the par 3 6th hole, which was playing 148 yards. I hit a 9 wood perfectly, high and straight, and the ball hit 4 feet short of the hole and slowly rolled straight in! Our group made such a commotion with yells and high fives that several people came out of a nearby house to see what the fuss was about. At the time we arrived up at the green the cart girl came screeching up in her beverage cart. Apparently she was alerted to what happened by other golf groups who heard our cheers. She certainly was a smart businesswoman because she knew that drinks were called for. When my friends back home heard about my experience they got a real chuckle. You see, I have a reputation for being, shall we say, a little "tight" in the spending department. They got a big kick out of the fact that I had to buy drinks for not only my threesome, but the twosome we had caught up with! They could imagine how I felt about that. Actually, for once, I was pretty happy to be treating my four golf mates and witnesses. This was my second hole-in-one; the first one resulted from a poorly-hit line drive that bounced most of the way to the hole and just happened to go in. I had always wanted to get another one that resulted from a well-hit shot. This one was legit!
