Friday of Fiesta week in San Antonio features the Battle of Flowers Parade. This parade started many years ago when the ladies of San Antonio would ride in carriages in front of the Alamo throwing flowers at each other. This was in rememberence of the Battle of San Jacinto. The Battle of San Jacinto is where Texas won its independence from Mexico by defeating the army of the then ruler of Mexico, General Santa Anna. Although it is a beautiful parade I opted for 9 holes at The Republic of Texas golf course (seemed an appropriate place to play on this date). I'm not much of a golfer but was at least keeping the ball in the shorter grass through the first 4 holes. On the 5th hole, my two playing partners had already found the green with their tee shots when it was my turn. Facing a strong wind out of the southeast, I opted for a 4 iron as I didn't want to leave it short on the 154 yard shot. It went high and then dropped about 20 feet left of the pin. That's when it started running right like a rabbit looking for its hole. I couldn't see the base of the pin, so when the ball disappeared I wasn't sure if it went in or had rolled off and down the back side of the green. I turned to my two playing partners to ask if they had seen my shot. No they hadn't as they were buying beer from the cart girl. Panicked, I realized the course marshal was actually sitting on the hole! I ran to him and asked him if he had seen the shot. "No, why?". I told him my story and asked him to verify if it was in or not as I was not going to approach the green until he had checked it. Then I went and bought a beer from the cart girl. As we were approaching the green, my cart partner asked me "What are those two doing just standing at the hole?". Our 3rd and the Marshal were standing over the hole but gave no indication of anything happening. I told my cart partner I thought I might have hit a hole in one but judging by the lack of response from the two on the green, I feared I hadn't. Only when we arrived at the green and I reached for my putter did our third finally yell "Hey you don't need that, it's in!". That's when I went numb and lost the ability to speak in whole sentences. Titleist Pro V1 lived up to all expectations!
