What A Day!

I made my first hole in one in the most anti climatic way possible. We have one short par 3 on our course, the 3rd hole. Charter Oak Country Club is a test for even for the best golfers so the 3rd is a welcomed treat especially on a course with 5 par 3s, each one harder than the next. I had a super early tee time, it was just myself and the assistant pro; the same assistant pro I watched make a 2 on our closing hole, par 5 18th. I was happy for him when he made the 2, of course, even though it costed me some money. Back to the hole in one. We stepped up to the third tee box, I took out my range finder as I always do. The green slopes back to front with a few bunkers lining the green on the right. The bottom line on this hole is, don’t be long. Anything else is pretty workable, there’s a hazard behind the green. The pin was right in the middle of the green and the number was 145yds which is a stock pitching wedge for me. I hit it pure, thought it was going to be really tight, it took one bounce and dropped in. Much to my surprise I didn’t yell, I dropped my club, fell on my back and then the yelling ensued. Funny thing is it was so early I felt like it was only me and the assistant pro out there but we celebrated. We did the obligatory photo shoot, I doubled the next hole, an insane par 5 which is our number 1 handicap. As we made the turn word slowly travelled back and you could hear the whistles and yells all around the course of guys congratulating me. Best part of the whole story is that we played so fast the bar wasn’t even opened when we finished. I paid for drinks and never had one, thank god for insurance. In case you’re wondering the assistant pro, in assistant pro fashion, beat me in our match. Best loss of my career!
