In a ‘normal’ year, women’s professional golf would compete for five major championships. But this is 2020, and the U.S. Women’s Open being contested at the Champions Golf Club in Houston is the fourth and final of this season. The first three majors have been won by Titleist Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball players and a fourth this week would complete the ‘Titleist Slam.’

Not only have the three winners to date been Titleist golf ball loyalists, they are also first time major champions:

Sophia Popov (Pro V1) | AIG Women’s Open
Mirim Lee (Pro V1x) | ANA Inspiration
Sei Young Kim (Pro V1) | KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

It was also a series of firsts at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Open, where 23-year old rookie Jeongeun Lee6 naturally shot 6-under to make her first LPGA Tour title her first major championship and received the first $1 million winner’s check at the U.S. Women’s Open. The defending champion has the number in her name because she was the sixth player with the same name on the Korean LPGA. She has embraced the number, even marking her Titleist Pro V1x golf balls with a large "6".

In addition to the streak of three consecutive major champions this year, Titleist golf ball players have also won four straight U.S. Women’s Open titles. Prior to Lee6’s winning performance last year, Ariya Jutanugarn earned her second major championship in a four-hole playoff in 2018.  Sung Hyun Park and Brittany Lang won their first majors in 2017 and 2016, respectively. All four players relied upon Pro V1x golf balls for their success.

Titleist Golf Ball Success in 2020

There have been 16 LPGA Tour events played in 2020. A total of 1,616 players have teed up a Titleist golf ball this season - an average of 84 percent of every field – compared to 108 players or 6 percent by the nearest competitor.

  • Of the 16 events, Titleist players have won 13 (81%) - more than six times the nearest competitor with two (2).
  • Among the victories were consecutive wins by Danielle Kang (Pro V1x) at the LPGA Drive On Championship and Marathon LPGA Classic, and Sei Young Kim at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and Pelican Women’s Championship. Kim enters the week No. 2 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and Kang is No. 4, while Kang tops the Race to the CME Globe and Kim is No. 3.
  • Having won nine straight events, Titleist golf ball players are on a hot streak entering the U.S. Women’s Open. The most recent victory came last week by Angela Stanford (Pro V1), a native of Texas and graduate of TCU, who captured the Volunteers of America Classic outside of Dallas. She will be seeking a Texas double and second major championship having won the 2018 Evian Championship, the lone women’s major that was not contested this season.
  • The LPGA season concludes next week with the CME Group Championship in Naples, Fla.
