NEW TITLEIST IRONS SEE EARLY SUCCESS, NEW T200 5-IRON + PRO V1 = ACE FOR MERRITT

Cam Davis and Troy Merritt were two of more than 15 players who had NEW Titleist T-Series T100, T100•S, T200 irons and U-Series U•505 utility irons in play at Detroit Golf Club, one week after the new models made their debut on the PGA TOUR.

  • Cam Davis added a NEW T200 2-iron to the bag this week for the first time.
  • “He was seeing good ball speed numbers and more consistent flight, so he really liked that combination,” said J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s Director of Players Promotions.
  • Davis also loved the look of the NEW T100 3-iron (which he will use in place of the T200 2-iron depending on the week) and how it blended with the rest of his set.
  • After just one full range session early in the week, Troy Merritt switched to a combo set of NEW T200 (4-5) and NEW T100 (6-PW) irons.
  • On Saturday, Merritt aced the par-3 11th with his NEW T200 5-iron, one-hopping his Pro V1 in from 218 yards.
  • Last week in Hartford, Hank Lebioda put NEW T100 (5-9) irons in play for the first time and posted what was then his best finish (T5) of the year.
  • Lebioda finished T4 this week in Detroit.
  • “They feel great going through the turf, the ball flight and ability to shape the ball is better,” Lebioda said.
  • Mark Anderson, playing a set of NEW T100 (4-PW) irons for the first time, recorded his best finish of the season, closing in 6-under 66 to finish T8.
  • Lanto Griffin put a NEW U•505 (2) utility iron in play.
  • Roger Sloan and Robert Streb added NEW T100•S 4-irons: “The T100•S provides Roger all the ball speed advantages that his previous U•500 did, but in a little smaller frame, so it blends with the rest of his set better, and gives him better turf interaction,” Van Wezenbeeck said. “Robert was playing a T-MB 4-iron, but felt like he had difficulty flighting it how he wanted to. With the new T100•S we were able to get him similar ball speeds with the ability to better control the flight.”

TITLEIST SWEEPS MAJOR EQUIPMENT COUNTS

Titleist was the top choice of players in golf balldriversfairwayshybridsutility ironsironswedges and puttersmarking the 22nd time since the start of the 2019 calendar year that Titleist has led every major equipment category at a PGA TOUR event.

  • Seventy four percent of the field (115/156) chose a Pro V1Pro V1x or Pro V1x Left Dash golf ball (nearest competitor: 18)
  • It's a feat that has never been matched by another brand

LPGA | Volunteers of America Classic

Jin Young Ko, playing a Pro V1 golf ball, earned her eighth LPGA title with a one-shot victory at Old American, just about 30 minutes from her new home in the Dallas area.

  • Ko, 25, who posted a career-best 63 in the opening round, led a 1-2-3 finish for Titleist golf ball players with runner-up Matilda Castren (Pro V1x) and Gaby Lopez (Pro V1x), who earned her best finish of the season in solo third.
  • Ko is the 12th-consecutive player to win on the LPGA playing a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball.
  • Fifteen of the 16 events played this season have been won by Titleist golf ball players.

CHAMPION PLAYS TSi DRIVER

The winner of the Volunteers of America Classic, currently ranked No. 2 in the World Ranking, played a Titleist TSi3 11.0° driver that she put into play for the first time at the KIA Classic in late March, making a mid-tournament switch from a competitive model.

  • Following the first round of the KIA Classic, played at Aviara GC in Carlsbad, Calif., she made the short drive to the Titleist Performance Institute in nearby Oceanside to test the TSi models.
  • It took no more than 30 minutes for her to get dialed in to a TSi3 11.0° driver with a Graphite Design IZ 5R shaft (45”), while working with Titleist fitters Aaron Luttrell and Nick Geyer.
  • The new setup, which she put into play for Round 2, delivered added ball speed with a more optimal spin number for increased carry distance.
  • Over the final three rounds that week, she averaged 264 yards off the tee, 12 yards longer than her Round 1 average.
  • “I changed driver last week after the first round,” she told LPGA.com the following week at the ANA Inspiration, where she averaged 272 yards off the tee. “I went to the Titleist [Performance Institute] center [in Oceanside] and tried a couple drivers, picked a really good one. I used that next three days and hit really good last week. I had good practice [with it] last three days at Mission Hills [Country Club], so can’t wait for tomorrow and all four days.”
  • This week in Texas, she hit 43 of 52 (83%) fairways and averaged 266 yards off the tee.
  • The win marks the third-consecutive win for Titleist TSi drivers on the LPGA Tour, following Nelly Korda's back-to-back victories.

RUNNER-UP MAKES SWITCH TO NEW T100 IRONS

The tournament runner-up, who last month won the LPGA MEDIHEAL Classic, put NEW Titleist T100 (4-PW) irons in play for the first time this week in Texas, as the seeding and validation process for the NEW Titleist irons began on the LPGA Tour.

  • She took her first swings with the NEW T100’s on the range Monday afternoon, taking them to the course for the first time in her Tuesday practice round.
  • “My irons have been really good. I put in the new Titleist irons and they’ve been working really well,” she told Golf Channel following her second-round 66. “They felt so good I tried them on the range and played the practice rounds with them. … They were a little bit higher, higher flight, like maybe couple yards longer. So I thought it was perfect.”
  • For the week, she hit 56 of 72 (78%) greens in regulation, ranking second.

JAPAN TOUR | Japan PGA Championship

Seong-Hyeon Kim, playing a Pro V1 golf ball and TSi3 9.0° driver, closed in 3-under 68 to win the JPGA Championship by one shot and claim his first victory since joining the Japan Tour in 2019.

  • “This will surely be a big turning point on my professional career,” said Kim, 22. “I want to send my appreciation to all who have supported me.”

Philip Knowles, playing a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball and full bag of Titleist equipment, birdied two of the final three holes, closing in 5-under 67 to win the Forme Tour’s second event by two shots.
