PGA TOUR

Sebastian Munoz relied on a Pro V1 golf ball to capture his first PGA TOUR title at the 2019 Sanderson Farms ChampionshipSebastian Muñoz | Pro V1 - Sanderson Farms Championship

For the second time in two weeks to begin the new 2019-20 PGA TOUR season, a Titleist golf ball loyalist has earned his first career win – this time at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Sebastian Muñoz, playing the Pro V1, converted a 15-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff at 18-under 270. Munoz then topped Titleist Brand Ambassador Sungjae Im (Pro V1x) with a par on the first extra hole. The playoff ended a streak of 38 consecutive PGA TOUR events that were decided in regulation, dating back to Titleist brand ambassador Charles Howell III’s win at the 2018 RSM Classic.

Oh the final hole of regulation, Muñoz left himself an uphill putt that he could be aggressive with.

“I just said, ‘Just strike it’,”Muñoz explained. “I blanked my mind, just hit it -- and it wiggled in. It was amazing. Place erupted. I got so like goose bumps, like everything emotion. I teared up a little bit.”

On the first hole of the playoff, Im flew the green, leaving a himself a very difficult up and down. Muñoz was brave with his chip, leaving a 4-footer that would seal the victory.

“Left it short, and that's not an easy chip,” Munoz said. “These bermuda greens, they kind of check pretty fast on you. Got to be pretty bold. And I did it. Hit it to about three, four feet, and last putt I just tried to go blank again, just strike it. Boom. Winner.”

Titleist Brand Ambassador Byeong Hun (Ben) An (Pro V1x) finished in solo 3rd place, one shot out of the playoff. An opened the event with a pair of 66’s and owned the lead entering the weekend.

Following Munoz, Im and An, Kevin Streelman (Pro V1x) and Carlos Ortiz (Pro V1x), tied for 4th, another shot back.

Muñoz, who hails from Colombia, follows Chilean Joaquin Niemann (Pro V1x) as the second consecutive player from South America to step into the 2019-20 Titleist winners’ circle. Niemann won the season-opening A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier by six shots.

SungJae Im, who was also looking for his first career win, was voted PGA TOUR rookie of the year last season and advanced to the TOUR Championship. He also became the first player to post a hole-in-one on the new PGA TOUR season when he aced No. 15 in the opening round of The Greenbrier.
