    Well a 3 wood shaft you would normally trim 1/2" so to make it play softer, you wouldn't trim it at all.  That should soften it by a half flex.

    Can't speak for Titleist, but can for Ping or Nike. There is a bit more feedback with a steel shaft (i.e., vibrations). Graphite has a softer feel vs steel and it dampens any vibrations from the clubhead (maybe Sensicore steel shafts may dampen vibrations…
