stronger grip and more hip rotation

  1. Looking for more distance on my drives while shopping for a driver, and the sales guy at Golftown suggested I move to a stronger grip. He said you should be able to see a couple knuckles on your left hand. The change has been dramatic. I am hitting the ball much straighter, and on average 15 yards further. Index has gone down from 10.7 in October last year, to 8.0 so far this year. I was in to Golftown last week on another matter, and we started talking about hip rotation. Suddenly, my club speed on my 3wood is 5 mph faster. I hit one of the par 5s at my course today in 2. First time ever. Actually, I was just off the green, but if I had been straight I had the distance to be on. I chipped to 18 inches and walked off with an easy birdie on the last hole.

Sometimes it is amazing what a couple of little tweaks can do. You just have to remember to take them to the course from the range and trust your swing. Have tried a stronger grip but for some reason, always revert back to a weaker grip over time. Will give it more of an effort

Barry - Theres the rub... How many times have we all said at the range "I figured it out" then gone to the course and hit some good shots before reverting back to our usual habits. I know I have lost track of how many times I have hit a bad shot and known exactly what it was I did wrong. One has to ask ones self why we cannot remember what to do before we take that swing :)
Bob - Congrats on finding the little tweaks that have been helping you gain the distance. It is great to hear you have dropped your index down to an 8.0 That is a huge drop in such a short time ! Keep up the great work :)
