I worked with my pro to get fit for the new 712 irons, yesterday.  What i love about Titleist is the ability to customize for me - right at the cart, and also the amount of information that you put out about the different options.  Lastly, everyone on your staff really knows what they're talking about.

My current set are the 710 AP1 with NS PRO 105T, completely stock/std, and I'm a 6 index.  The main reason i'm seeking new irons is to lower the height of my shots, and ballooning.  I really like the light feel/swing weight of the AP1s, we measured them at C9 or C10 - however getting a combination that creates a boring is priority #1.  To give you some perspective, I used the 910 D3, set at 7.75 with the Oban Devotion 6 - and this club FINALLY(versus my other driver setups) gave me some results off the tee.  I'm hoping for similar results.

    What we fit is:

712 AP2, 2 degrees strong, 2 degrees flat.  Dynamic Gold SL X100.  VDR grip.  It's important to note that we didn't have the Dynamic Gold SL shaft, or the new AP2 heads for the fitting cart.

I decided on the Dynamic Gold SL, because i liked the lighter feel.  The X100 was decided on more to assist with lower ball flight from the lighter shaft.  I can hit my 7-iron 165 to 175+ when I'm "on" - so i'm probably close to that border anyway.

    My questions, please:

    1) Would you recommend any other combination, knowing that Im after the lowest launching setup - but prefer the lighter swing weight?  If i have to choose, then lower spin/trajectory/launch wins.  I know that the DG and DG Tour should be lower, but according to your chart it might be negligible.  So specifically i'm curious if the Super Light shaft does achieve the same spin and trajectory - or if i need the weight to truly be effective.

    2) Will i be able to get anywhere near the swing weight that i have with my current AP1s?  Seem that this is something that needs to get included on the order form - that my pro and i didn't discuss a lot.

Thanks for any insight.  I plan on ordering the set, ASAP - as soon as tomorrow.  I could wait and try to hit the exact combination - although i was never able to do that with the 910D3 w/OBAN and your fitting chart was spot on - so i've learned to trust it!

    A few short comments.

The head of the club is much more of a factor affecting ball flight than the shaft>

Swing weight does not affect ball flight, purely a feel decision on the players part.

Launch and spin are much more important than anything else you mentioned.

How the light weight shaft affects the ball flight depends on the player, Shafts, heads.... do not do the same thing with all players.

I agree with my Master, Stevie Ball on all points! I will also add "Trust your fitter!" You can make the swingweights heavier if need be with a little led tape.
