example: i get fitted using a titleist 6 iron, result showing i should use a dg s300 shaft stiff flex 2* flat. first question the 6 iron from the fitting cart exact loft and lie. second, is the shaft flex a true stiff flex? my question is that when my clubs arrive will they be accurate for loft and lie or just within oem tolerances. a margin of 2* + or - 2* as shown by titleist could mean alot. the dg shaft could cycle between week stiff or extra stiff depending on tolerances allowed. the same could be said for a driver just because a stated loft says 9.5 due to oem tolerances it could actually be a 7.5 or 11.5. face angle could also vary due to tolerances allowed thus allowing inaccurate adjustments especially on the 910 drivers. i know there is no standard for all shaft flexes among oems but the 2 of the same shafts from the same manu. could cycle differently affecting play. i understand that with mass production tolerances have to be allowed, but with so much attention being paid to proper fitting how are we to know if our equipment is correct or just close to correct. the only people that get [exact weight, loft, lie angle, flex] are the pros. the pros are trying to earn a living from golf and should be playing the best but as recreational golfers paying $700-$1000 for a set of irons and $400 for a driver what should we deserve?

The clubs you are fittedwith are the exact loft and lie. When your club specs are defined the set you order will be made to the exact specs you were fitted for. The =/- 2 degrees that you see is the amount that Titleist will generally be able to modify a standard set by. The stated loft of the drivers is not +/- 2 degrees, it is very close to exaxt. The shaft flex will be the same as you had in the fitting set. Tru Temper shafts are very consistant. Getting fitted for a custom set is something EVERY player should do. There is no extra charge (unlees you want some special shaft!) for custom clubs and they definately have a benefit for all, from 36+ handicap to the Tour player.

i have a couple of questions: when the manu. process is complete are the vast majority of iron heads exact as to weight, loft, and lie angle. and does quality control weed out the incorrect ones? secondly when the person putting together a custon set first check the heads as to being on spec before he does any adjustments? my reason for asking is this, i previously purchased a set of titleist 735cm irons they were speced out for standard loft, length, 2* flat. after playing with them for a couple of months i tended to hit the 5&6 irons to the left with the rest of the set within reason. i went back to my fitter and with his mitchell machine he verified that the 5 and 6 were 2* up not flat hence the reason for my left problem. the rest of the set varied from standard to the 2* flat. he contacted titleist they still had my original work order the clubs were returned and corrected at no cost to me. thanks titleist. i currently play a set of ap2 710 irons that were listed as standard but varied as to loft and lie angle. my fitter made adjustments to get them to standard as listed by titleist then adjusted to my correct 2* flat lie angle. iam very pleased with the irons. as for driver loft, if titleist driver has a stated loft of 9.5* and has an actual loft of 10.5 or 8.5* that one degree difference can make a huge impact when a person may make a .75*or 1.5* change in loft. some people agree that some oem lean towards putting more loft than stated in their drivers to help people get the ball in the air.

In my experience I have never had a club come from the custom shop that did not meet the specs they were ordered to. I get a new set for myself every year and when they arrive I do check them and find that they are within 0.5degrees of the loft on the spec sheet. It is good to be very technically involved with your equipment, but to be honest the differences you are looking at will only be noticed by a Tour player or a very accomplished amateur. Please don not take that the wrong way, I applaud your desire for the details. titleist does not mislable the lofts of any of thier clubs. The drivers that you get in golf shops are the same drivers that the Tour players get. The manufacturing process is very well controlled. The 735s you had could have just had a mistake made during the custom shop work. Pretty uncommon but it does happen. And as you found out, Titleist made it right for you. I have not seen this happen but it can. They do a lot of work in the custom shop and they turn the clubs around very fast. I know I probably didn't answer your questions fully, but trust Titleist. They make a GREAT product and if they do make a mistake they will stand by the work and fix it for you.
