  1. I'm tired of missing fairways and i read shorter shaft means more control ..... i'm cutting my shaft 1" today since i was not able to find a reliable Titleist club fitter in my area Northern California - hard to believe. They tell me i don't need to worry about swing weight!

is there a Surefit weight kit for the 909 D3 driver? if not, how much weight to i need to add to the head to maintain proper swing weight (D2). I'm putting a Golf Pride Tour Velvet .600 round grip

    Help!

    regards,

Keep in mind that shortening 1" on a graphite shaft reduces the swingweight approx 5 points. You would have to add 10 grams of weight to the head to restore swingweight, keeping the Golf Pride Tour Velvet grip. One option is to use a Winn V17 Lite or Winn Lite Dry-Tac grip. The former is 25g and similar to Golf Pride and the latter is 23g and is soft wrap. This alone will restore swingweight since a standard Tour Velvet grip is 52 g (5 grams per swingweight point for grip). This action will reduce the overall weight of the golf club by ~39 grams. I found out about the Dry Tac grip at Golf Galaxy because I had to shorten a Ben Hogan 0H by 1" - it looks the same as a Winn Excel RF. Another option is to use a Winn Excel RF grip (43) and 4g of head weight. Not many people think about changing the grip. If you use a midsize or oversize grip vs a standard grip, the difference is 2 swingweight points lower (Lamkin Crossline std is 52 g and mid is 63g).

    Oscar,

You will lose close to 6 swing weight points, bringing the club to C6.  You would need to add, roughly another 6 grams to the head or reduce your grip weight to make up for the lost swing weight.  Swing weight is a measurement of how the club feels, so it may or may not make a difference to you, but taking that much off, I'm sure you will notice some change.

  4. Hello Cameron,

I appreciate your quick response! i live in 94062. I've already tried the link above to find a fitter but when I called i got either a sales person or someone with basic "change grip" skills not a fitter. I'm assuming you don't sell the 6g weight kit for the 909D3?

I guess my next best option is lead tape since I like the Tour Velvet grip or wait for the tour fitting van to come around my local club.

    Thanks!

    Oscar,

You aren't to far from Palo Alto Municipal Golf Club.  They are one of our Advanced Fitting Centers in the country and offer more fitting knowledge and shaft options.  We won't be able to sell or swap out the 909 factory installed weight unfortunately.

I have a post pending and put 5 swingweight points for shortening graphite 1". I know it is 6 for steel. Also, isn't it 2 grams/swingweight point on the head? I cut a Ben Hogan 0 hybrid by 1" on Mon. Replaced the stock grip with Winn Lite Dry Tac midsize and maintained the swingweight. The grip is 23 g. the delta is ~ 29g. C6 feels a bit like a ladies' club. I had a Ping G2 driver one time with a Winn Excel RF grip and Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue shaft and it was C8. I personally can feel the difference between a D0 club and D3 club.
