Just had a great club fitting experience at Oak Valley in Advance, NC. J.Hill spent a lot of time with me...setteld on the AP1 712 irone (4-GW) lite steel shaft stiff....had a 4o lie and an extra 1/2 inch shaft. This is different from anything I have ever hit so I am a little nervous about making the big purchase. I am a 13 HC and have been playing about 30 years. I have never had anything but "off the rack clubs". Is this normal to see a change like this?Has anyone else seen a change like this in their club fitting? I have always had control and alligment problems with my irons.

  2. Hello Marvin,

I never played much golf with my brother-in-law because I wasn't in his league (he's a 5HC). The first time I did, he told me he thought my clubs were too short for me. I went to see a local PGA teaching pro who told me the irons were too short AND the wrong flex so he set me up for a club fitting done at the Ballantyne resort in Charlotte, NC. The new irons were 3/4" longer, went from R300 to X100 and 2.5 upright (I had been hitting off-the-rack too).

It was a whole new world. I had trouble adjusting so I went back to that PGA teaching pro and took a series of lessons. I wanted to have a trained eye watching me as I learn to hit the new sticks. I went from a mid-to-upper 90's golfer to a consistent mid 80's so relearning that part of the game saved me 10+ strokes per round. It was definitely worth it for me. Besides better scores there's less wear and tear on my back from not having to hunch over so much.

    Good luck to you.

Fitting makes all the difference (even with used clubs) .

My iron setup is Titleist standard lie angle -1/4" on the irons thru #9, standard length on the PW.  Ping Blue Dot is the same as Titleist standard.  My Vokey GW and SW are 35.25" and 1/2* upright; LW is 1* upright.   I have a 44.5" driver, 42" 5 wood, 40" 4H and 39" 6H.  Putter is 35" and 2* upright (using the Ping fitting putter) - putter makes a big diff.

  4. How much does getting all your clubs custom fit? and can you go to any set of irons and use the same fitting measurements, or would you need to get re fitted?

The only cost that I saw were for the clubs...the fitting was done by a certified Titleist club fitter.....he recorded all the information and I took that to my club pro so he could make the order...I do plan to keep the information for future use..I'm not sure how those measurements would apply to different clubs.
