Driver Fitting Advice

  1. Hello all,

    I will be fitted for a driver with a certified Titleist fitter here soon and have never been through the fitting process. Does anyone have any tips on what I should look for in the process to make sure it is thorough.

    Don't get in too big of a hurry, especially if you are not comfortable or not swinging your normal way. I actually did two different sessions a few weeks apart before locking in on my iron set.

    And R-E-L-A-X. You want to keep an easy tempo for best results. Over-swinging will make it harder to find your best fit. It isn't a long-ball contest so don't try to kill it during the fitting.

    Like Dale I had two fittings about 1 month apart. Difference was change from A1 to A2 setting and been able to use straight out the wrapper.

    my tips.

    1. Warm up
    2. don't try to hit it out the park
    3. don't hit too many without a break, maybe hit a few 7 irons in between
    4. Ask questions and make suggestions based on feedback. It's a lesson as well as a fitting....My spin was high and suggested shaft was mid/high spin so I asked to try D3... It worked but fitter suggested overall more forgiveness in D2.
    5. make your decision based on facts as well as feel and vice versa. If one fit feels better but performs slightly less then look at the trade offs...

  6. 2 fittings would be key- I literally had the worst jitters when I got fitted the first time, it was soo bad I even had the shanks...try and relax! But I am sure 2 would be the way to go!
  7. 1. Warm up.
    2. Easy tempo with your swing.
    3. I find indoors on a mat is okay for irons or pretending on grass surface, but really dislike the rubber tees with a mat.
    4. Be open minded. I ended up with a different hybrid head than I thought I would.
    5. Bring your present driver so the fitter knows where you are starting.
  8. Not sure if you will have a lot of shaft options where you are being fitted but if there are a lot of choices, buy the best performing shaft for you that you can afford. You will be much happier in the long run. A good driver becomes a great driver when the head and shaft are matched with your swing.

  11. He is there to help you. His job is to make sure you get the right driver based on your swing skill level to support your game. Confidence in your final choice is important. During the session be honest to his questions on shafts club head setting and ball flight. Don’t complete your fitting with unfulfilled expectations. The Titleist pro fitting you wants your new drive to be your best friend every time you step on the tee box. When it arrives again swing it with confidence and success.

    There are many great suggestions above for getting fitted! I have been fitted many times through the years, from "free" fittings in stores, to Titleist Thursdays - which are fantastic(!), to $350 per hour Trackman sessions. I believe Titleist still offers at least 4 different levels of fitting ... Titleist retail, Titleist events, Titleist Regional "Premier Fitting" and then either Massachusetts or California HQs. I would offer the following thoughts. 1) Get fitted OUTDOORS HITTING OFF GRASS and if possible, using Trackman (just can't see things like ball spin rate, decline angles, etc. with the naked eye). 2) Understand that if, for example, you typically fit into the S-stiff shaft category, there may be a million stiff shafts out there and fitting is unique, like your fingerprint ... so most stiff shafts probably are not optimal for your swing ... find a few that produce a ball spin rate around 2,500 RPMs and narrows the misses right or left. Be Patient. Shafts are the engine of the club. This is art & science!
