I want to purchase four new Vokey Wedges (oil can) to give to myself for my 60th birthday present!!  My current Vokey Wedges are:  48-06 (90-120 yds and greenside chips); 54-10 (75-90 yds); 56-10 (75-0 yds and sand); 60-12 (40-0 yds).  I am a touchy-feely type of wedge player.   I play with ProV1x balls, I play with a steep swing plane resulting with a very high shot with all clubs, with divots on most shots.  I play (13-handicap) on a local muni course that is used for Monday qualifiers for the two Pro Tour events and other State Amateur events, so we have excellent fairways and greens for North Texas.  Fairways have good grass, but can be firm.  Rough is very thick both fairways and around the greens  Bunkers are firm, heavy sand in most, while there is white fluffy sand in only a few of the others...always wet sand because we are the first group off of the mornings and the sprinklers have just run.  The plan is to change out the sand in all to the white fluffy light sand.

How do I determine the correct bounce appropriate for each wedge.  I have tried to read the comments in the club book, but walked away confused.

  2. Hi Bob,

There are general rules of thumb you can follow to help in your selection process.  More bounce is better for softer conditions or players with a steeper attack angle.  Less bounce is preferred by players in tighter lies and shallow attack angles.  These guidelines are to provided to help you in your decision but a proper fitting at one of our Advanced FittingWorks Partners is your best source in choosing the right wedges.

If the wedges you described above work well for you currently, I would recommend that you stay in a similar bounce category.  Our 48 degree only comes with 6 degrees of bounce.  The 54, 56 and 60 all come with three bounce options (Low, Mid and High).  It sounds like you are a shot maker and play a variety of different shots with your wedges.  In this case, you will most likely find the most versatility with the mid bounce options (54.11, 56.11, 60.07).  If you only use one wedge exclusively from the sand, you may consider a higher bounce on this wedge.

An Advanced FittingWorks Partner can help guide you in choosing the right bounce and lofts based on your swing type and yardages to minimize yardage gaps and maximize your wedge performance.

Thanks Nick!!  So translated...more bounce equals smaller or larger degree of bounce??

  4. Hi Bob -

More bounce equals a larger degree of bounce.  Maybe this image will help...
