Changing lofts

  1. I normally get Titleist irons 1.5 flat. Planning on getting a mixed iron set. Only issue is gaping. I know the fitter will advise. But for my knowledge, if I ask for some of the irons to increase or decrease loft, will that change the bounce or turf interaction? I guess a better question is, will Titleist make the club with the desired loft or will they bend it?

Titleist will bend it and bending the an iron (example 54 to a 55) will increase the bounce by one degree and (56 to a 55) would decrease the bounce by one degree. Do not think one degree change in bounce angle would be significant. Listen to your fitter and ensure that he/she is a certified club fitter with a number of years experience, not a shop retail sales clerk.
  3. Thank you, not so much talking about wedges, most likely will be the 4-5-6 irons

Was only using those degrees as an example, as noted. The 1 for 1 applies to all irons. If you increase the loft on your four iron by one degree it will increase your bounce by 1 degree.
  5. When I played blades, all my irons were 2 degrees strong. Never had any issues with turf interaction.
  6. I agree with Kirk
  7. Generally comfortable with 6 iron down. Finding I’m struggling with 5,4,and 3 iron. Generally hitting clubs thin with little trajectory! Have tried moving ball to various locations in my stance! Just wonder if shafts may be issue-second thought, probably me!

I agree with all posters on how loft affects bounce. I have a Vokey SM8 46 bent to 44. I have not experienced any playability issues.
  9. Thank you all for your input
