Does it make sense to have a first fitting for my older Titleist irons? They are a set of 1991 Titleist DTRs given to me new as a gift by my father, now deceased. I like them, and have never considered getting new clubs in part because these carry some sentimental value for me. Does Titleist even work with their older clubs?

    David,

You can have the lie angles on the clubs checked and if they are too flat or upright for your swing, you can have them bent to your specs.  Other than that, your probably not going to want to invest in a different shaft than that's already in the clubs.  Also you can put on new set of fresh grips which I recommend.  Good Luck!

Thanks Gator. I've thought of having the lie checked, so I may do that this year. I do re-grip every year or two, depending how much I play. New grips really do make all the difference. Of course formal instruction and playing more often is what I really need. Maybe I'll treat myself to that when we get our economy back. Hey Titleist, maybe I'll upgrade my clubs to new ones if I become a better player! Thanks again for your input Gator.

I would be very careful about bending the DTR's - as I recall they were not very plyable - very prone to breakage...caution. Escpecially that old of an iron --- they probably do not have any heads to replace them.
