I was fitted at my local Golfsmith last summer for my AP 2's.  I wanted to lower my ball flight so they fit me with Project X 6.0's.  I played a couple of times last week and my ball flight is super high.  Any recommenations on what would lower my ball flight?

    Thanks,

    Scott

    Hey Scott,

I just received a set of Ap2's. When I was being fitted, I was told that a major reason for taking the project X's out of the Ap2's standard, which they were last year, and changing to the 710 model is the DG's was because a lot of people did not like the unusual high ball flight of the Project X shafts.

I have not played with them, so I cannot say for sure, but I've heard this from a few other people as well, even ballooning certain iron shots because of the spin rate and high launch.

I went with the DG S300, and am very satisfied, good luck.

I'm glad I paid the upcharge for shafts that make the ball go higher even though I wanted to lower my ball flight.

Never forget this --- the head of the club will always affect ball flight more than the shaft. True Temper shaft engineers admitted this to me 10 years ago. I have observed this first hand in 25 years of fitting myself. And, Titleist personnel will tell u the same thing. So if u r wanting to lower ball flight strengthening the loft will b much more of a factor than the shaft!!! Same thing on drivers. I'm not saying the shaft is not important but the head is ALWAYS a bigger factor. Let's not forget the swing - that always will b the #1 factor. Look man get another Fitting done by a PGA certified Pro. Do a good warm up before hand and let them take another look at your swing. you might have had a bad fitting. I've never Been to a Golf smith but i don't know how many PGA certified fitters they have. I never recommend Bending club Faces. Some may disagree but I feel mostly against it. Also consider some lessons. You May have the wrong shaft. and even though the Head is the biggest factor a wrong shaft can be the root problem. I'll Testify to that. And Argue anyone on that point.  Club bending is a cheep trick. Basically you'll turn your 5iron into either a 4I or a 4.5 iron.

P.S. I get irritated with  Shaft Slammers. the right Shaft is very critical.

I would test you in X100 or S400 shafts with the AP2 delofted 1 degree.  We typically sell the AP2 at 1* strong and 4-GW or Vokey 52.

AP2s are just built to fly high which works very well on tour!

Thanks for the info guys.  I really don't mind the high ball flight, normally, but the first two times out it was windy.  I guess I need to pratice more to get the flight lower in the wind.

Again, thanks guys.  It's always good to come to a place where people have real knowledge of this kind of stuff.

Maybe you are scooping at the bottom of the swing versus hitting down on the ball?  Just something to look at because that is one of the biggest mistakes amateur golfers do and no shaft will fix that.  I know this from my own experience.  I thought I was hitting down then decided to tape myself and could not believe how much I was scooping.  Again just a thought.
