I was fitted for  910 D2 driver at fitting day by a Titleist rep, but with no launch monitor.  We compared to my current 909 D3 8.5 with Titleist Voodoo stiff shaft. I have  smooth tempo swing at 87 mph.  I was fitted with a 910 D2 9.5 Diamama K'aili regular shaft.  The discussion was that this combination delivered a better trajectory.  But I have lost at least 20 yards in distance.  I went to my local Titleist fitter, who fit the 909, and got on the launch monitor.   The launch angle is 12-14 but a spin rate of over 4000.  The 909 combination launches similarly  a spin rate below 3000.   In order to get the spin down we tried a stiff K'aili shaft, a regular RIP, and a 910 D3 8.5 head.  No combination has been able to get the spin rate below 3800.  Can you give me a recommendation on what shafts to try at our next session to get the spin down so I can use the 910.  Thanks Steve

    What about Matrix HD6?

What about Project X 7C3? It's a little heavier but it sounds like it should keep the spin down on your flight.

Thanks for the input. I will give it a try although the only one available is a 6.0 that may be too stiff.  During our launch monitor testing with the Kai'l R shaft the club face entry into the ball was 12 deg downward and 1-2 deg open.  With the  Titleist Voodoo shaft (S) in the 909 D3 the entry was 0-3 deg downward and face was square to very slightly closed.  This tells me I need a stiffer tip at least.  There is not a Voodoo shaft at my fitter to try with the 910 D2.  I have also noticed the specs on the Titleist Kai'li shaft are slightly different  (softer) than the Diamana Kai'li version, but it would appear I need a more dramatic move to get the spin rate reduced by more than 1200 rpms.  Any thoughts from the Titleist Concierge?

    Thanks Steve D

  5. Hi Steve -

    Where are you located?

    Thanks for the reply Nick

I am in The Villages in central Florida.  About 50 miles north of Orlando.  My fitter is the Custom Club Shop at the Palmer Legends Country Club in The Villages.  I was fit for the 910 D2 originally by Jeff, from Titleist,  at a Demo day in May at the above course.    Since then I have worked with the fitters at the Custom Club Shop to try to get a better shaft fix.  They are using a launch monitor.

    Thanks Steve D

I haven't gotten a response since providing my location. I was looking for your input.  Can I call to discuss.

We have tried the Titleist Kai'li 65 stiff and the Project X7 6.0 and they have helped lower spin. Both are set to D2.  The Project X shaft seems very similar to the Titileist Voodoo S in my previous 909 D3 The Kai'li launches higher of the 2.  I believe the Kai'li 65 R was easier to swing as I have to work harder with the S shafts.  Would the R tipped 1" have as significant an impact on spin as the S shafts?  Or is there another suggested shaft.

  8. Hi Steve -

Sorry for the delayed response.  It seems that you have been in some good hands with the fitting process thus far.  The Villages is a great fitting partner of ours.  Short of fitting you myself I would assume the recommendations you have received are appropriate for your swing.  Tipping the regular flex 1" would certainly help bring the spin rate down but would also firm up the shaft flex.

You can always call 1.888.TITLEIST to discuss your options and any other questions you might have.

We are finally making progress.  The problem seems to be with the D2 9.5 head.  We have switched to the D3 in an 8.5, which is what my 909 was.  No shaft was able to make the D2 work as well as the 909 D3 with the Voodoo shaft. The D2 always produced a high flight and very high spin and a 30 yard decrease in distance.   I am now taking the 910 D3 8.5 with a Voodoo SVS7shaft to the course to compare to the 909 D3 8.5 with the Titleist Voodoo S shaft. On the range the 910 combination seems to work very well.  Proof is at the course side by side.  With my swing specs this is not what would have been an anticipated solution.  What I have learned is always use a launch monitor and take it to the course before buying.  Also, assuming what a particular swing speed and tempo needs is leads to a poor solution, and what a particular ball flight looks like is no substitute for actual data.  Thanks for your help and you are right the Villages is a great fitting partner.  They have stood behind the product and a diligent to make sure I am happy with my purchase. I could not ask anything more of them.

    Thanks Steve D

I believe  we have solved the fitting problem today.  A big thanks to the guys at the Palmer Legends Country Club Custom Club Shop,  especially John and Chris.  They spent a  lot of time working with me to  find a  head / shaft combination that  worked.  Also a big thanks to Cathi, Titleist Club Concierge for the shaft recommendation that ultimately worked.  The solution was D3 8.5 at a C1 setting with the OZIK HD6 stiff shaft.  The average numbers were 14 deg launch with 2400-2600 rpm spin, and a 4 MPH increase in ball speed.  I am taking it to the course for validation, but I am confident this is the solution.  Thanks to all Steve D
