What to expect from small loft differences in different heads?

  1. I had a fitting this weekend with a Titleist rep.  The best combo for me was the D3 with the Px 7C3 shaft or the HD6.  Both had very similar numbers.  I had the 8.5 set to 9.25.  What could I expect if I went to either shaft at 9.5 degrees.  Not as concerned about spin as I am with launch angle.  Launch angle at 9.25 was right at 15 degrees.

  2. Also, does TItleist off the HD7 or Speeder 6.2 or 7.2?

Victor, It would be nice to know what the spin and landing angle was as the relationship between launch angle, spin, and landing angle is very important. With the launch angle already on the high end, I would think that going to 9.5 would not be your best bet as it would probably just make the launch higher. By taking an 8.5 and making it 9.25, the face was closed 1 degree from 0.5 open (STD) to 0.5 closed, I assume to counteract a miss to the right. Both shafts have tested out well and if they produced very similar numbers for you, I would suggest going with the one that was the most consistent and felt the best. If you are still unsure or would like to hit the 9.5 to make sure, find a local Titleist fitter and I am sure they would be happy to help. You can also call Team Titleist and they can talk you through it or help you find a fitter.

If you have identical heads, identical shafts, swung exactly the same, but 1 was 9* and 1 was 10*, there would not be 1* difference in launch angle. So with a .25* difference in loft there should be less than .25* difference in launch angle.

But with an 8.5* adjusted to 9.25*, it is no longer an identical head to the 9.5*.

If the 8.5* adjusted to 9.25* gives you the launch characteristics that you want, then get the 8.5* adjusted to 9.25*.

  5. The Px was in the 8.5 set to 9.25 and the Ozik was in the 9.5  I'm assuming since the numbers were very similar, if I put the HD6 in the 8.5 at 9.25 then my launch angle would be a little lower.  Overall feel, I like the HD6 a bit more, just cause I feel like I can go after it a bit.  I'm not sure what my drop angle was, but it looked to get about 15 - 20 yards of roll.  Spin rate was right around 2500.  Does Titleist offer the HD7 or just the HD6?  The other thing I was worried about is if I swing between 102 - 105 should I get the stiff flex or the strong flex if I go with the Ozik?
