NXT Tous S vs. Pro V1

    I recently switched from playing a Titleist Velocity ball to the NXT Tour S, because I needed more control and feel around the green. I also tried playing a Pro V1 and noticed no difference between that and the NXT Tour S. Both of the the balls spun nicely on the green. I even got a wedge to draw back a little with both balls. I was wondering if there is a difference between the Pro V1 and the NXT Tour S. Is there?

    There is a difference between the two balls.  The primary difference is that the Pro V1 is a three piece ball with soft core, casing layer and a urethane cover.  While the NXT Tour S is a two piece ball with a large soft core and a fusablend cover.

     I'm sure someone from Titleist, or another TT member, can provide you with more details on the differences between the two.

    The Pro V1 is a 3 piece ball and has a urethane co (ver. The NXT Tour-S is a 2 piece ball with a non-Urethane (Fusablend??) cover. Other users have made a similar comparison and with the Pro-V1x/NXT-Tour. Whatever ball you have confidence in, works for you. Others may not find them that closely matched. I'm sure Titleist has to struggle with producing quality balls for all levels and keeping some differentiation between their best and next to best balls. I've never had any ball work as well for me as the V1x (NXT Tour is close) and with loyalty program, nothing compares price wise.

    Part of the difference will depend on your swing which determines how much spin you will put on the ball.  I find a slight difference in distance off the tee but much better consistency in distance and gapping with the ProV1 than the NXT line.  My biggest difference is in putting.  I fined the ProV line to be much softer off the putter face making soft touch putts on fast greens much easier than a harder ball.

    For me there absolutely is a difference.  I can tell the difference in the short game where the ProVs are more responsive to the intended shot.  However, the NXTs are not too different.  I play the NXT Tour S because I tend to spray of the tee.  Nevertheless if I was able to keep in play most of the time I would go for the ProVs.  Try practicing with the two around the green.

    i used to play the nxt tour s because of price. its a great ball. but for me i hit the pro v1 farther on average so i switched and havent looked back.

    NXT Tour S has a harder cover and not as soft around the Green and putting, but nothing wrong with the NXT. In fact, I had my second hole in one with an NXT S today. 178 yard. 5 iron. The last one in 2012 was with the NXT Tour. So, although I play Pro V1s,    there is nothing wrong with the NXT BALLS, FOR THE PRICE.

    There is a difference between the two and I am surprised you did not notice a difference.  Albeit, the folks at Titleist have done a good job masking the differences in terms of spin and distance.  I think the new ProV1 golf ball will be noticeability different though in a positive way at least if the test balls recently are any indication of what is to come.

    First, congrats on getting away from Velocity balls, they have almost no feel. They do come off the face hot with a driver/ wood/ hybrid, but it's hard to get a consistent distance and feel with that ball. The next level is the NXT which translate to a softer ball, better feel, better control, and on your putts, you should notice a softer hit off the putter face, even the acoustics should be different. The Pro V's are then the next level of that where you get increased control, ridiculous accuracy on the wedge, and putts like butter.
