I recently ordered a set of 714 AP2s after a fitting at a Titleist Advanced Fitting Center. The clubs were ordered with Golf Pride midsize grips but when I received them they had standard grips that were built up 3/64ths. The retailer I bought them from was puzzled but figured the factory may not have midsize in stock and had no problem installing the midsize free of charge.

Just curious as to why Titleist couldn't install midsize grips on a custom order?

  2. I am at 3/64" oversize as well on my grips (that is about 4 wraps of tape depending on the shaft and grip size) however I would not prefer a midsize grip and like how they build up the std .580 grips on all my clubs.  I believe you have to request a midsize grip specifically if that is what you want since any custom order you do not want to leave anything to interpretation...IMHO

Titleist doesn't carry every grip in midsize. For example, they may have the Golf Pride Multi-compound in red and white midsize but not blue. Obviously, many popular grips are not even made in midsize. The factory then does the simple job of building the grips up which achieves the proper size specified in the order. Your retailer gave extremely good customer service installing the midsize grips when it was really unnecessary and cost them time and money.
