I have mostly played a Newport style putter or a flo neck putters and recently have been inconsistent missing both directions. I went to local GS store to look at more face balanced putters like the Odyssey #1W Versa. They had a Newport 2.6 putter, I took 3 balls from around 12 feet away and sank all 3, then turned back around and sank 2 of the 3 the other direction for 5/6 putts made. I grabbed the golo putter (heel shafted) and I seen I was not as consistent missed some left some right. Went back to the Newport 2.6 and made 3 of 3 again, I quickly realized that I seemed to be rolling or aiming the ball better with a straight center shaft putter. Now I am debating between the Golo S5 putter or the Newport 2.6 that performed well for me in the store. Looking for feedback between these 2 models & using center shaft putters in general. Curious about how the roll with longer range putts?

    Matt,

They both work well for players looking for closer to a straight back and through stroke.  They are similar in toe flow, but the Golo S5 will be more forgiving.  This type of minimal toe flow works well for players with less of an arc in their stroke as well as for players that tend to miss left of the hole (for RH).  One reason for missing left of the hole (RH players) is due to there being too much toe flow.

Made the switch to a Newport 2.6 last year after having some putting lessons. My Del Mar just didn't suit my stroke!

Since then I've moved to the Golo S and have seen further improvement in my putting due to the extra forgiveness of the head over the Newport. I'd try both Golo/Golo 5 and the Newport if you can on the same green/mat before making a decision.

How does the Golo S5 compare to the Newport 2.6 on longer range putts? I was thinking that the Newport 2.6 head shape may flo better on those longer 40' putts with the 5 o'clock toe hang?

found a Golo S to try and it performed well. So I think I'm going to order the Golo S5 model, since it offers a little extra forgiveness over the 2.6!

Good luck with the new putter, if your putting style is straight back and thru the center shafted putter's is the way to go.

I am in the SAMEEE exact boat as you, if I didn't know any better I would ask the same exact question. I was at my local shop and after messing with a lot of blades i stumbled across the 2.6, the only center-shafted at the shop and I buried 5/6 from 15 feet or so JUST like you, which I hadn't done with any other putter. I liked the GoLo as well but was less consistent than with the 2.6 but it wasn't a Golo S.

The GoLo as I understand is designed for a slightly arcing stroke, so if a center shaft is for straight back, straight thru strokes how does that work? I'm a slight arcing putter and I felt the 2.6 worked fine with my stroke.  I'm debating which one to get between the GoLo S5 and the Newport 2.6... all I know is that this season, a Cameron will be in the bag for certain.

Bryan, I tried several SC putters last year, and they all felt good, but just didn't fit me, then I noticed a GoLo-S at the back of the rack. I never cared much for a straight centered shaft putter, but I thought I'd try it since the others didn't feel right, and I had holed only a couple of putts with the others. As soon as I picked up the GoLo-S it felt great, and I made every putt I tried. Needless to say that I got fit the next day for a GoLo-S. The GoLo-S is still not a true straight back, straight through putter, but it's as close as you'll find with a Scotty putter. Love my GoLo-S, but I do wish I'd tried the GoLo 5-S. It's the same putter only it has a 10% smaller head than the GoLo-S. Be sure to try one before you decide, and good luck with your choice. You can't go wrong with either one you decide on.
