Hey, I'm looking at getting new irons in the very near future and I am hoping you all can help me make up my mind. I am 20 years old and currently sit on a 3.5 Handicap. I have been playing old miz MP 33's since my senior year in high school. I have hit both the Titleist AP2 714 and the Titleist CB 714, I am torn on what may be the best decision for my game and can't decide what to get.

Whats the better club fit for a 3 handicaper?

" How long is a rope?"   That's a tough question for anyone to answer.  Everyone here has different specs and swings.

I'm a 3 Handicap and play the AP2 714's.  I could hit the MB's, but the forgiveness and feel of the AP2's is right for me.

Your best bet is to schedule a session with a qualified Titleist fitter and check the options that will best fit your game.  They can show you exactly what you should be able to play.  Good Luck

First, Go See your PGA Pro.

Get profiled and that will be a huge step for you in the selection process. Remember this, any club head is only great when it's on your shaft.

    Lastly, See your Pro!

The best way to find the clubs that will work best for you is to see a Titleist certified fitter. They will help you find the correct model and shaft and all the other specs that are right for you.

IMO: You will get too many varying opinions on the internet. What works for me or somebody else may be totally wrong for you.

At your handicap level and have hit both clubs, which one did you like better? Was one more forgiving on your misses? Which one felt better? Those are questions only you can answer.

    Thorn,

Both the AP2 and the CB are excellent clubs for the low handicap amateur.  You can't really go wrong.  It all depends on how you like to play to be honest.  If you like to work the ball a bit more, then the CB's are probably the way to go.  If you like a little more forgiveness and still have some workability then the AP2's are ideal.    I recommend going to your local PGA pro or titleist fitter, and get fit appropriately,   a combo set might even be appropriate where you do the AP2's in the longer irons and the CB's in the mid and short irons.     Either way you can't go wrong with a quality Titleist product.   Best of luck to you!

    Thorn,

I was also torn between the AP2 and CBs when I was deciding on what new irons to get. My handicap is slightly higher than yours (playing to an 8.1 right now), and after trying both during my fitting session I ended up choosing a combo set of 714 AP2 4-6 and 7-P CBs.  Ifind that the slightly more forgiving AP2s perform well for me in the long irons and the more shot control of the CBs are great in the shorter irons. My advice would be try both in a fitting session and see what works best for you and suits your eye.

P.S. I made the switch from Mizzy as well and couldn't be happier!

My experience when I tried switching to cavity backs was the distance control vs my blades, the CB just seemed to fly 1/2 club further than expected from time to time, there is more dispersion in distance with CB than MB. Also the turf interaction, the sole width, bounce & camber grinds are usually different between cavity backs & blades so make sure to hit them off the grass first to see if you like the turf interaction. You can't go wrong with either model, both are tour proven irons! .

    AP2's without a doubt.
