Can someone help me out here? My question is, do the weights on the SC head affect ball speed or are they just for feel?

I have always played an Ody. putter because I like a putter with an insert. Bought my first SC last year (GoLo - S w/35"shaft) and it's the best putter I've ever played. My problem is, after about 8 mos. of playing it, I seem to be always coming up short of the hole. I'll be on line most of the time, but short. I just figured that I was used to the insert putter, but after all this time, I haven't got the distance right. So, I'm wondering if changing the weights to more or less weight would help. (I now have the standard 10gr. weights on it) Just a thought, and am hoping someone that knows more about the weight system could answer my question. Also, would going to the GoLo 5-S be any better since it is smaller, and lighter? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.  NW

    Hi,

While there are probably more factors in play that are causing your putts to come up short, in general a heavier putter can help.

When playing on really slow greens I use my Scotty Sea Mist with 25 gram weights.  On really fast greens I'll use my Circa 62 model 2 which is much lighter and smaller head.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Greg. Glad I ask since I was thinking the opposite, since my Ody. feels lighter. Since I may need more weight, I could put a little lead tape on the bottom of the club head and try that before I add heavier weights. Thanks again.

Using led tape is a good way to try, just be careful about the placement as to not disturb the balance of the putter.

I just bought 5 gram weights on eBay for about $12 after shipping.  And a wrench tool from CustomShop911 was about the same.  So for about $25 I do not have to worry about led tape.

Greg; Thought I'd cut two pieces of lead tape the same size and put over the weights that I have now just to see if it makes a difference before I buy weights. Thanks for the info about pricing, and where to get them. I think Titleist only sells full sets of weights, so I wouldn't need all those weights.
