I am looking at getting a combo set of AP1/AP2 with the 5 and 6 irons in AP1 and the 7-W in AP2.

As the lofts are different, I am looking at ordering the AP1 1* weak.  This should match up better with my 24* hybrid and will give me 4* lofts throughout the set.  The other alternative is to get the AP2's one degree strong, which would match all my irons, but would only give me a 2* gap between 4 hybrid and 5 iron and would put the wedge at 49* and a 5* gap to my 54* sand wedge.  Any thoughts on this?  Anyone else playing a combo set and how do you like it?

I went with AP1 4-6 with the 6 iron 1° strong.  AP2 7 - W2 standard loft.   So from my 5 iron up to W2, everything is a 4° gap.  Vokey 54° and Vokey 58°.   I think it will work out well, soon as the darn weather breaks.  Good luck!

This issue was extremely important to me when I was purchasing my new Titleist set.

My advice is order the SAME set but with custom degrees. This will take the doubt out of your head. I went with AP2 712's. 4-AW I had the 4 iron bent to 23* so that my 19* hybrid would match. I also went as far as ordering a 56* and 60* vokey wedges bent to 55* and 59* respectively. because the AW is 51* in the 712's.

I feel the * gaping is important for being accurate with your yardage card. It also is mental. If you are comfortable with your equipment you can focus on the shot.

I highly recommend at least hitting a lie board or see a fitter to make sure you get the lie angle correct. If you are going to invest in your game you should add the extra $50 and know for sure your numbers.

I went against the combo set because I valued the continuity between clubs.
