    Hey Team TItleist,

I am looking for a club to fill in the gap between my 3 wood and 3 iron.  I just thought it might be cool if we all threw in all our yardages in this thread.  It would be helpful for me, and it'd be fun. I'm only a junior, so take it easy on me.  :)

    Here are my own:

    Driver: 260

    3 wood: 250

    -

    3 iron: 220

    4 iron: 205

    5 iron: 195

    6 iron: 185

    7 iron:175

    8 iron: 160

    9 iron: 150

    PW: 140

    SW: 115

    LW: 90

    Hi Sam,

    Thanks for the post.

It looks like you do have a good size gap between your 3w and 3i. Finding a club that goes around 235 would be great, but you need to make sure it helps you accomplish your goals.  Are you looking for another club to hit off the tee? If so, find one with a little lower, more penetrating flight. If you are looking for another club to hit into the greens, try something that goes higher and is easier to hit off the deck.

Hope this helps and keep us up to date.

Think the 17* hybrid might be the answer for this young lad?  Seems like it might be a good fit.....

Either a 17 hybrid or 19 fairway.  They get about the same distance.  Try side by side.  There are people on the forum who prefer fairways (like self) or prefer hybrids (like some of the others).  I personally hit a 21 fairway the same distance as a 17 hybrid.

Thanks for the replies, I was hoping for a club that would be easy to hit off the turf with more spin, maybe easier to hit out of thick rough. Just wanted to know whether to go with a 5 wood or a 17/19* hybrid. That's why I thought others' yardages would be helpful. I just can't decide between the 3. Sam

Man absolutely go with he hybrid.  They are so good out of the rough and off the deck and sit soft on the greens.  I love mine!

From my perspective, the hybrid sounds like the better choice for you.  I am a bit concerned about the differing gaps between your clubs and propose you have the loft/lies checked before you go too far with another club.  I sense you may have difficulty at the lower end with 25 yard gaps between your wedges.  You may want to think about selecting one fairway club that helps fill your gap between the driver and 3 iron and another wedge to make your gaps smaller at the lower end.  Whatever you decide, do so only after a thorough fitting.

By the way, as a senior, giving you my yardages would only confuse the issue for you.

    Thanks,

My wedge game is probably the strongest part of my game right now, and I don't feel like I should be messing with it.  My wedges are 6 degrees apart, which may be a bit of an extreme, but I feel comfortable with them.  I am now leaning toward the 19 degree hybrid.  It sounds like it's easier to hit out of the rough, and that would suit me better.

My wedges are 45-49-53-58-64.    (AP1 PW, SM4 50-08 and 54-11 1* strong, the remainder stock).  I previously had my PW 46 and I used a 60-10 bent 1* strong.   7* is about a 20 yard gap for me and that is pretty manageable (if I need to shave 10 yards, I choke down 1/2").  I have a pretty strong wedge game and it helps because  I've lost quite a bit of distance over the years (I used to hit a '60s vintage 8 iron about 150.  I hit an AP1 8 iron 135; I used to hit a 4 wood 230 and my 3 wood goes 200 now - I have hit a laminated 3 wood 325 yards in high school).

I found out in 2006 that I fare better with a 7 wood vs a 3H.  My 7W length and lie angle are 41" and 59.5* so that actually plays like a 17* hybrid and I hit both clubs about the same distance.  7W is a lot easier to launch.  I do very well on the par 3s and approach shots with a 7 wood.

  10. Hybrid off the rough and great for fairways too.  I suggest getting fitted with the correct shaft and loft.

Sam, good thread I actually agree with Bubba you have to decide what you want out of the club you're trying to fill the gap with..I personally carry a 712U 3 iron I use it for tee shots only, I hit it pretty low and with run I get 235/245 yds ...I also carry a 21° hybrid 910 titleist its a target club that goes 230 yards and lands soft ,either off tee or into greens. Either way get fit and HIT"EM straight....

Thats why 2 irons should still come in sets.

Count me in the wedge advocating group.  I personally would add a gap wedge to fill the 25 yd gap in your PW and SW.  It would give you more options with your scoring clubs even if your wedge game is solid now.  If your 3 wood if adjustable, I would tweak it down to about 240 maybe or leave it alone and manage that 30 yard gap.  I play a 910F 13.5* (240 yds) and a 17* (225) with a 910H 19* (200), but I can't hit a lob wedge.  I love my 17* 910F, but your current set up sounds good for long range.  My favorite clubs are my 910F's and my Vokey 52* and 56*, but I would pick the 52* over the 910F's because I'm not going to be hitting many right at the pin from 220+, plus it works great for long greenside bunkershots and little bump and runs!  Good luck, Roll on...

I am about 1/2 club weaker thru the bag, except for my wedges 54/60 I carry the same distances. Driver at 255 carry & 3 wood around 235 carry from deck. I carry a 712U 2 iron, I love the having the lower trajectory option off the deck when hitting into the wind, and it also makes for a great controllable driving iron. Looking to carry something 235 out of 3"+ rough with any control on the ball is a low percentage option, no matter what your swinging.
  15. Hi Sam,

maybe take a look at the 2 iron 712u? that should do it i think. My yardages:

    Driver: 285

    3 wood: 250

    21 hybrid: 235

    3 iron: 220

    4: 210

    5: 200

    6: 188

    7: 178

    8: 164

    9: 150

    PW: 140

    Gap: 127

    Sand: 115
