  1. I have put my new 714 AP2's to use and after several rounds, the black numbers that ID the irons on the sole, have begun to wear off (some almost completely- scoring irons). My club has a grass range and I don't hit off mats. I am wondering if this is a common issue for folks for the 714 AP2's and/or some sort of design flaw? My previous set of 735 CM's, which I had for almost a decade, never had this issue.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Will, I'm sorry to hear of your numbers fading.  When you have a week to be without your clubs or at the end of the season, please have your pro set up a Warranty repair.  Have him request an expedited shipping label and we will repaint your numbers for you.

I have the same problem with the original AP2's but found that it was an easy fix with model airplane paint. I have to redo these once or twice a year but it's not hard to do.

Common problem.  There's a thread on this every couple months.  I suggest learning to repaint them yourself.  I use a fine tipped "Painters Pen" from the crafts stores.

Titleist is great with customer service and will do it for you. It is very easy to do yourself. Get paint at any craft store acrylic seems to be best. Paint it then scrap with a flat piece of cardboard ( a scorecard works fine) let them dry overnight with the numbers as level as possible so paint distributes fully. Then some fine steel wool will take off any excess.

    good luck

I am not sure I would recommend steel wool on your clubs!    Just dampen a piece of tissue in acetone and rub very lightly and the excess paint will come right off.

Good thought, I have used acetone in the past and it works like a charm!  Very easy to do.

Done it on many sets we are talking fine steel wool and light pressure. When I use acetone the towel need to be pretty dry otherwise if wipes out the paint in the number.

We are talking the sole of the club which contacts the ground regurlaly. That's much more abuse than fine steel wool.

Still not taking steel wool to my clubs...    If you do it right, the acetone wipe works perfectly without taking any paint out of the number.

  13. I am of the "other" camp...I prefer my clubs to look a little worn and used...so when my PW sole number recently began to lose some paint that is ok with me! Regardless of what club manufacturer you choose this happens to most of them, if you have not had this experience before then consider yourself lucky.

    IMHO, Good Luck!

Pro Line paint pens are what I use. Good for the club engravings and scoring lines. Available at The Golfworks 1-800-848-8358 or golfworks.com. They have a lot of neat stuff for taking care of your clubs.
