  1. I was playing MB 712's and I just got 714 AP2's. I just can't get used to these clubs. I am not the greatest golfer but I have always played blades and if this is the cavity back feel, I don't know if I want them. Any advise would be great????????

    Hi David,

Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear the transition to AP2's hasn't been easy. A significant change in equipment like the one you made can be difficult.

Blades offer a lot of feedback compared to a more forgiving cavity back. You will notice mis hits more and solid shots will also feel quite a bit different. Cavity backs are designed for more forgiveness, however our new AP2's offer the highest combination of forgiveness AND shot shaping ability and control.

My suggestion would be to take both sets to the range. Try to hit the different shots you would hit on the course and see how both clubs react. When it comes to feel, that will take some getting used to, but make sure you play with the new AP2's in every situation before deciding if they are the right club for you.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    David,

Also sorry to hear of your difficulties and frustration.  My first thought was, were you fitted with the AP2's and do they have the same specs as your blades (ie. shaft flex, length, lie)?  If not, it's possible that this could cause some problems and could take some getting used to.  Is it that you're just not able to get the center of the club face on the ball, or you just don't like the feel of the contact of the AP2's compared to the MB's?

    Hi Dave,

Don't know if my experience will help, but here it goes...

I have both 712 MB and 712 AP2 sets and I go back and forth between them.  While I like the AP2 a lot, I much prefer the feel of the MB.  That is a preference since feel is feel and, in my opinion, there is no substitute for how something feels to you.  Your post does not say exactly what you can't get used to, but if it's the feel, then I would venture to say give it time.

The only difference is specs--that I can notice from what is published on Titleist's website--is that the AP2 irons have more offset.  For example, the AP2 PW has 0.080" of offset compared to 0.075" of the MB PW.  While a difference of 0.005" (five one-thousand of an inch)  may seem insignificant to the eye, it can produce significant more dispersion when the ball travels 120-125 yards or more.  My natural shot is a draw and it is definitely more pronounced with the AP2; obviously, more so with the 8-PW and progressively less with the 3-7.

    Hope this helps,

    Greg

I have struggles with the game improvement clubs. While they are more forgiving they do tend to offer more offset & wider soles. My main issue was the turf interaction & distance control vs playing blades. At 51 I have decided to stick with what I'm used too - blades. I feel extremely confident with the control & feedback they give me. However, you have 2 great sets of irons & may want to double check the specs on the AP2's to see if they match up with the MB
  6. I made the same change and after a week I was glad I did that.

    Being a solid 4 hcp, I totally recommend the 714 AP2.

Get fitting and puring if you will, when you get used to it, you will question why didn´t you change before.

    Hope that´s helpful.

I've experienced the same problems throughout my club changing days. I grew up on my dads old blades. my first own set was Cbra cavity backs. never really got a feel for them. i bought some slightly used ZM's and got back in to the swing of things. i got fitted for some png I10's when they were still new and never got used to them either. so i went back to the blades. so i tried the 710 ap2's. I could never hit the long irons so when the 712's came out i jumped on them. For me its blades. they just feel right and i hit them better. The same fitter and teaching pro that put me in to the pings told me when i went back to blades that there is nothing wrong with anyone playing blades. (at the time i was an 18 handi cap) its a feel thing if they work for you they work. I played an entire season with the ap2's they just weren't for me. i loved the 712 line. i ended up buying two sets.

cheers greens and fairways to all

I purchased my 714 AP2s last November and they are just now really starting to feel good for me.  I played the original AP2S (silverbacks) and played pretty well with them shooting a career low 69 with them a month and a half prior to getting my new clubs.  I changed from a PX 5.5 shaft to a XP95 shaft with the same set up going to a lighter shaft has made a difference.  My handicap went up to an 11 over the winter and now it seems to be trending down again.  All of a sudden the clubs seem to be clicking in a positive way.   Now I am able to play 3-4 days a week and that helps......
