As much as I like the 712 AP2 irons I am playing, I do not care for the pitching wedge. The amount of offset (in my eye) is too much and I tend to balloon shots which leads to inconsistency in distance control for me. I was considering getting a Vokey wedge to replace my pitching wedge. With all things being equal (L,L,L), should I expect distance loss switching to a Vokey wedge from the AP2 wedge? If so, should I have the loft strengthened to keep my yardage gaps consistent?

    Thanks for the help.

    Richard,

You may hit the AP2 a yard or two farther, but it will be very close assuming you are making consistent contact in the center of the club.  You will certainly see a distance difference if you miss the center of the face, as the AP2 is more forgiving.  I would compare the two side by side on the range.  This is a common practice that is done by many players.

  3. Richard, I agree with Cameron's thoughts.  Eventually, I found myself on the range comparing both and it became a personal preference but the dynamics were similar...feel was the big the difference to me.

I chose the AP2 but many have chosen the Vokey Wedges.

    Personal preference is bottom line....IMHO
