I'm in the market for some new irons, and I'm not sure what to get.  I played the AP2's last week and absolutely loved them, but I also really like the MB's.  My only concern is that I'm a little intimidated by the full blades of the MB's.  I average about a 77-80 but I've never owned blades before.

    Thanks,

    Neal

    Hi Neal,

It really is all player dependent. My best suggestion would be to see a local fitter and hit both clubs. With that said, the AP2 does offer more forgiveness that the MB, but at the same time it offers great workability.

Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Neal, Bubba is steering you in the right direction....all of us get fitted before investing in new clubs...you want to make sure you have the right club for you......I have AP2s and I love them....Bubba is our go to guy.......chuck  :-)

Hi Neal,  If you are looking for a good fitter in the area, our Tech Rep, Brian C., works over at The Quarry at Crystal Sprngs in Maryland Heights, MO 63043 - give him a call and he can help you select the right head and shaft combination for you.  His number is:  314.514.0154

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

I kinda live in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not able to get out to a specialty store or facility that offers fitting very often (Crystal Springs is about an hour drive).  I've hit both the AP2's and MB's and I really love both.  Im an average mid-high 70's shooter and I'm looking for something that can offer me the workability I'm looking for, without being too unforgiving.  Ive found that the MB's allow me to shape my shot just the way I like, but are less forgiving (and the opposite for the AP2's).  I've been playing these horrible cally's that I got when I was probably 11 or 12, and after 9 years, I need an upgrade.  So I guess my question is, just judging by what I'm telling you guys, would it be stupid to get the MB's and trying to just grow my game to offset the reduced forgiveness, or stick with the AP2's and deal with the reduced workability?

    Thanks,

    Neal

  6. I shoot about the same as you do on average.  I bought a new set of the AP2's back in April, and since then, I've shot more rounds under par than I have in the last 2 years.  I've birdied more par 3's than I ever have before.  I really don't think you can go wrong the the AP2's.

I also ditched my hybrids for a 4, & 5 iron.  The 4 is quickly becoming my favorite club to hit off the tee on the short par 4's.

I only hit the MB's at the demo day back in March, and while I loved the look of the blades, I just couldn't get over the forgivness that you get with the AP2's.  IMO, I think the AP2's are very workable still.  Much more so than any other club I've ever played.  I've had the i20's for the last 3 years until now.

You won't be disappointed with the 714 AP2s. On your good days you'll be able to move them all you want and they look and feel great. On your less than good days, the forgiveness will come in handy. I've been playing them for months and I'm still amazed at the combination of workability, distance, and forgiveness of the AP2 technology.

I think it would be worth the hours drive to go see a fitter.   The difference in price in the MBs and AP2s is more than the cost of the gas to get there and back......just a suggestion...... :-)

I agree with Chuck Z..  I think it's well worth taking that hour drive and getting fitted correctly especially with those irons...  Spend the day (if you can) and just hit until you get comfortable with one of them..    Best of luck with your choice!

I just did a fitting with my area rep and have my irons on order.  Can't wait to get them and lower that handicap index a few more points.  A short drive is well worth it to get the right sticks and ask all the questions you can.  I think I hit about five different shafts before I made my choice, and I am happy.  I know the rep was tired after I got done with him, hahaha.

    Hi Neal,

I considered the AP2 also, but I was able to get fitted by the Titleist tour truck and to  no ones surprise the AP1 with Nippon Modus 3 Tour 120 was more consistent and produced much better numbers across the board.  I happily ordered them and have since dropped my HCP to a 1.2.  I also equalled my lowest round over the memorial weekend with a 69.  Don't sell the AP1 short they are awesome and inspire a lot of confidence.  Hope this helps.

Neal, I would suggest skipping a round of golf in order to make the hour drive and go to a scheduled fitting appt. I have played AP2's for 2 years and just had a conversation this morning that I couldn't imagine playing a non titleist set of irons. I did try hitting the CB's and the difference (for my swing) was noticeable. The conversations and data you will get from a fitting will be more than worth it. Just think of how many swings you're going to make with these clubs. You want to make sure you make the best, most informed decision possible.
