Do you think that it is necessary for a 12 handicap to have a 3 iron or do you think a fairway wood and hybrid are enough.

its dependent on you is your hybrid easier or do you like a 3 iron i dont use hybrids i use a 3 because i like the solid feel of an iron plus i feel more from my iron then a hybrid or a wood

I would say it depends on the golfer.  Your handicap alone is not a determining factor.  I myself am a low single digit handicap and havent used a 3 iron for several years and replaced it with a hybrid.

If you have a shop where you can demo clubs, try them out and see what works best for you.  I have become a fan of the 3 hybrid, but that is a matter of what I am most comfortable with.

I agree that it depends on the golfer as well. I myself have used both long irons and fairway woods over the years. When I was younger I used both however, now I only use long irons going up to a 2 iron. I have issues hitting fairway woods. I hit them too far and high. I prefer long irons for the control I feel and because I feel I have a much more flowing swing with an iron than a wood. It is always good to go and demo all sorts or clubs ranging from hybrids, fairway woods to long irons. With this you should be able to fit the right club for your gap your seeking to fill. What it comes down to is what you feel is most comfortable for your swing, and mental game.

Thank you, i guess I will have to try them both out and see what I like.

Like the others have said, it depends on the golfer. I would try out both the 3 iron and the hybrid and see which one produces your desired result.

    I AM A 12-13 ALSO.

I DO NOT KNOW A 12-13 HANDICAP PLAYER WHO CAN CONSISTANTLY HIT A 3 IRON AS WELL AS A HYBRID.

MAYBE I DON'T KNOW THE RIGHT PEOPLE BUT I THINK ANY PRO WOULD TELL YOU TO TRY OUT THE HYBRIDS AND YOU WILL NEVER USE A 3 IRON AGAIN.

OF COURSE THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT HYBRIDS BUT I BELIEVE A 12-13 SHOULD BE USING A HYBRID.

Here is how I would approach this question. Go out in a fairway with your 3-iron and a similar hybrid. Drop 5 balls for each. Make 5 swings with each, and evaluate the results. Look at consistency, feel on solid hits, and severity of misses. I'll say this right away. If you can hit a 3-iron solidly off the deck, you can hit anything....LOL
