This question is for one of the T/T staff.  I was looking at the png site after a pretty poor round of ball striking.  A lot of my shorter irons either dug into the ground or slid right under the ball resulting in shots that were short of the target.  I know that I'm just frustrated so I would not switch from Titleist, but I was curious about something I noticed.  The new png G30 irons have more than double the bounce of the AP1s.  For example, the png 5 iron has 6* and the AP1 has 2*, the png 9 iron has 11* and the AP1 has 5*, and the png GW has12* with the AP1 at 7*.  I was wondering what the philosophy is to having less bounce in the AP1s especially since Bob Vokey has the view that bounce is your friend?  Thanks for your help.

The reason the AP1 irons have less bounce is due to the sole width.  The wider sole helps them play with more effective bounce than the measured bounce angle. The sole playability takes into consideration not only bounce, but sole width and camber and the combination of the three determine how the club will go through the turf.
