I'm getting more into golf and am thinking about trying the AP2 714s to see if they suit my game but wanted opinion of a "player" before pursuing something that's not for me. I am currently around a 8/9 Handicap from normally around 6200-6500 yards but don't usually work the ball much left or right. I am currently playing a second hand set of Clvland TA7 Irons and was wondering if these irons would likely allow me to start working the ball more; or I should pursue a AP1 or other improvement iron.

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the post.

When it comes to finding the right iron for your game, it is always best to see a local fitter to try the different options out. Before you see the fitter, try to make note of what your miss is and what you would like to improve. Do you want something more forgiving? Would you like to work the ball more? Also pay attention to what type of head shape appeals to you.

With the help of a fitter, you can find the right shaft and head to improve your game.

Let us know if we can assist in any way.

    Take care,

    Bubba

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) you are the ONLY person who can make that decision.  Do you have the ability to?  Yes.  Do you have the necessary ball-striking skills to make the AP2s your next set?  As Bubba so eloquently put it in the previous post, get fit and see...

My experience has always been to improve my game to play whichever iron I really-really wanted to play (and I play to a 4 handicap on 6,800 - 7,000 yard courses).  The AP2s have some forgiveness and are NOT as difficult as a traditional forged blade to play.  If you're playing to a single digit and can strike the ball reasonably well then I see no reason for you not to give them a try.  If you drive it really well and play wedges for second shots most of the time but struggle with middle and long irons then you may want to think about a combo set of AP1-AP2s.  Bubba was right that a fitter might have different recommendations based on your play, experience and comfort level.  Either way, getting clubs with correct shafts that fit your personal swing is priority one.  After that, it's up to you to execute the shots.  Hope that helps...

  4. As a low handicap player my last two sets of irons were AP2's....my son plays the CB model but I have found I prefer the feel of the AP2's without question.  However, one of the other threads made a good point, you should see a fitter and experiment with all three models (AP2, CB and MB) to see which you hit most consistently and like the feel...

    JAT! Good Luck!!
