I am a 72 yr old golfer who is a titleist person totally. I have posted in past about trying buying and borrowing every better brand of clubs thinking it would be better than titleist products. I play 6-pw in ap1s vokey 54sandwedge and scotty 1.5black also 913driver fairway wood and 21hybrid. All clubs are soft flex graf. Including sand wedge my question for any of you CERf fitters or any of the good people that reply on this site I hit driver 210 what if any help would the new driver out soon help me I think shafts are interchangeable.thanks harry

    Hello Harry!

Great to see you still out swinging away and especially with #Titleist clubs! As for me, I am diehard Titleist and FootJoy. I couldn't imagine not being head-to-toe in Titleist even down to the ball and tee.  I trust the equipment I play and I am very comfortable with it as it instills major confidence.

Here are some questions for you:

-What do you want out of your current game? More distance, more forgiveness?

-What would you like to improve upon? More distance to enjoy the game more?

-What are your playing characteristics for example ball flight high or low, tendency miss left or right, high spin or low spin?

-What type of ball do you play? Do you switch off or play whatever is in your bag?

    -What are your golfing strengths?

-Any physical limitations that affect your swing?

There is a myriad of questions that one can ask if you want to improve or looking for that something extra for your game.  If you trust your current equipment for what it is designed to do then you may be just fine where you are at.

I am currently playing older equipment, The 909 Driver, fairway and hybrid. 695MB Irons.  My current bag is comfortable and I trust it but I am looking for more yardage, better ball flight trajectory, and control to eliminate or decrease my bad misses.

I am not a certified PGA or Titleist fitting professional, but if you truly desire a change then seek them out.  Feel free to throw any other questions or thoughts my way and I will happily provide my thoughts.

Be well. Play Well. Be #Titleist. Play #Titleist !

Chuck, I ordered the D2. I prefer the forgivness of the larger head, and I find that I can still work the ball enough for my game.

My current is a D3 and think I may go that same route this time...like the forgiveness on the offcenter hits....of course your handicap is a bit lower than mine.....thanks......chuck

The first thing  I would advise is to see  a certified fitter. The process will determine not only the correct shaft for you but the best loft to get the most out of your driver.

I can say that the 915 seems to be bit more forgiving with off center hits and it reduces the spin rate a bit. Both very good qualities in a driver!

Yes the 915 shafts are interchangeable with the 913 shafts. Just remember that you can't just buy the clubhead.

Harry - At 64 years young, I'm feeling your pain. Distance is primarily a function of speed. Time is not on our side. Getting fit by a professional knowledgeable of the equipment and able to adjust your swing may find a 915 D that can improve over the 913. That may include a recommendation of a strength coach to maximize speed through exercise and stretching at our age. Unless you were poorly fit for the 913, a 915 in of itself won't do much to change your score. Hitting 214-216 instead of 210 won't change my score by more than 2 strokes a round.

The 915 will give you more ball speed and forgiveness on off-center contact, including contact low on the face. More loft will give you more backspin, offering more carry. Of course, you should pair it up with a light shaft to give you more speed. At a more mature age, I would look for a light head, light shaft that offers more speed. I recently tried the above described setup and gained 4-5 more mph in swingspeed. If you enjoy Titleist drivers, check out the new 915 line. It offers more forgiveness, a new face design, a channel to help low contact for better ball speed, etc. They also offer a shaft in the 49-51g range that works well to gain speed.

If you want to compare driver heads to find the best for your game, I would demo the 915 against let's say, a cally BB V Series (another lite setup for more speed)  for comparison and settle your mind. When you are spending $400-450 on a driver for several years, it's best to compare. Titleist makes a great product, and if you are a Titleist devotee, you'll probably decide on the 915. Good luck and get fit with a TItleist specialist.

I've been playing the 913D2 for a year now and love it.  I've got two friends ready to buy it from me.  Why?  Because they know I just ordered the 915D2.  :))

I probably won't sell it because I want to have the two shaft options.  I have a high flex point high spin shaft now and I'm actually putting in a lower flex point, lower spin shaft in the new driver.  The weight difference is only slightly higher in the new shaft.  I've found with my current driver I hit an extremely long ball DOWN WIND, but the extra spin it has is a detriment INTO the wind. My average drive, no wind, no fairway slope is between 240-260.  I've hit shots down wind 295.  Into the wind...big drop off.

I'm hoping the new shaft will help with that into the wind shot because it seems that is what my course delivers most mornings...into the wind holes.  :)

Any fitters out there??? Does this make sense to you?

I'll report back with my actual results sometime in November after I get the new driver.  :)

    Mark
