Hey Guys I need help I just back into the game after many years off. I played TM back then, so I figured why not buy all new TM stuff again. Well I wasnt fitted but through their on line fitters (chat) I was suggest to buy the following clubs. TM SLDR driver, SpeedBlade irons and JetSpeed fairways and hybrids. The lofts are shown below. I knew little to nothing about lofts and what gaps are appropriate (lack of research on my part, I know). Well as you can see the lofts are all very close together or overlapping in the fairways and hybrids, and their seems to be a large gap between my driver and my 3 wood.

Anyway Im switching to all Titleist. Driver through Vokey wedges (which I already play) So far I have a set of 714 AP1's and am going to get a fitting week after next for the 915 series. I know that the fitter will suggest clubs and lofts based on my swing and ball speed, spin etc.

My question is can you give me a ball park estimate of what clubs and lofts I should be looking at. Currently I hit my driver an average of 205 yards which I think something is wrong because I hit my 3 wood 200 yards off the deck. Maybe my swing is that much slower on drives IDK. I can hit my driver 240 - 250 on the range, I just dont bring that free and fast of a swing to the course because I fight a hook at that swing speed (another time).

Here are my current lofts: Please give me estimates to help "fill in" the new lofts (Approx.)

    Hi Jared,

    Thanks for the post.

As you mentioned earlier, the lofts of each of your clubs is player dependent. Many times, individuals with lower ball speeds benefit from more loft to increase carry distance. However, you may notice that the loft of 12 on your driver is actually causing a ball flight that is too high. My best suggestion would be to go into the fitting without any thoughts, and let the fitter tell you what is best for your game.

    Keep us up to date.

Bubba will not steer you wrong.  A good fitter is the best investment on a new set of clubs.

Had my fitting on wednesday. It was a great experience. The fitter was a really great guy, I really enjoyed working with him.

We started off with the driver, with my regular gamer (tour green). I wasnt getting good numbers, and after hitting other shafts, I realized how much I dont like that shaft. All of my strikes were in the center of the club face but low. He had me choke up and the moved up nicely into the center. He recommended that I go a half inch short on the driver. We moved on to the Rogue Black, Spin was ok, but he thought we could do better, tried the Diamana Red and it was way too light, felt whippy. Then he put in the Rogue silver and it felt good and I asked him how it was performing, and he said just hit it a few more times...  Turned out spin was great (2300-2500) and launch angle was good too (14* on average) Ball speed was 150-155. Had a couple of major miss hits and couldn't believe how well they actually were. Never got that out of the SLDR. We ended up with a 10.5* with Rogue Silver, Stiff.

Then we went on to the three wood. Was hitting it pretty good of the deck, considering it has been over a month since I swung a club. Tried several shafts and lofts, and ended up with the Rogue Black in 15* head. That black is a really nice shaft. feels great. We werent getting optimum launch angle but it was the best out of all the options we tried.

He said with my game and distances, I didnt need a 5 wood. He said it was better to have a gap at 200 yds, that at 100 and in.

After some talking and hitting the hybrids, we ended up with the Rogue Black in a 3 and 4 hybrid.

Next we tested the irons out on the lie board. I was hitting them way off the toe and the lie was way out to the toe as well. We tried 2* up and it was better on the lie and strike area, but still not great. Ended up needing 4* up. After he gave me that 4* up club, I hit some of the best iron shots ive ever had!!  Thank you, fitting.

So in the end, I have a 10.5* driver 0.5" short, with Rogue silver, a 14.25* 3 wood with Rogue black and a 20.25* and a 24* hybrids with Rogue Black, and a new set of AP1's standard length 4* upright.  All on order!!

Cant wait to start playing this setup. I already feel more confident in my ball striking just based off the fitting.

Jared:  I know you are excited to have all these new wonderful Titleist clubs.  Let us know how they affect your game and how well  you play with them.  You are making a big change and brand change, so give them a chance.  A major equipment change has an breakin period.  I know you will be satisfied like the rest of us.  Good luck..... Chuck

Was fitted for my new ap1s last year hit them well in the shop but had serious issues at first.  Allow yourself some time to adjust and hit the range often if you can.  Jealous of the new setup haha.

I plan to be patient while adjusting, and I will be hitting the range often. I like practicing on the chipping/bunker greens at my club, because its marked from 150 and in, plus there are flags front, middle, and back letting me practice all sorts of shots. And its off the grass, where as the driving range is usually mats only

A fitter with Titleist experience will help you sort out the driver to FW gapping. The driver recommended is different in that the MOI is forward compared to the Titleist drivers. You can't compare just on loft. Some vendors promote decreasing loft to make the iron number "longer". Note the 5 Iron lofts is 23 degrees compared to the Titleist 27 degrees. When the old 4 iron is the new 5 iron, eventually many players won't be able to hit the new 3 iron (the old, old 1 iron that only JN and God can hit). The other interesting loft recommendations are the 17/19/21/22 and the 22/23/25/26.5 loft clubs. This is best sorted out on turf to limit clubs to a 10-15 yard actual distance gap, regardless of loft. It is individual preference to use a 16.5/15 degree FW, FW or Hybrid between 21 and 17, and Iron or Hybrid from 27-21 degrees. You should at least have one more wedge in the 54-56 degree wedge area with a bounce to match your beach and style to escape. Only you and a fitter will know for sure.
