Looking to improve my distance so shopping the 915D2...as a senior, which of the stock shafts should I be looking at. Going to a PGA store for fitting, are there any key questions I should ask?

Hank,
Without knowing anything about your swing it is impossible to recommend what shafts you should be considering. What you can do before your fitting session though is use the custom club options booklet to do a little research on your own (select GOLF CLUBS and then select Custom Club Options under Custom Clubs). Look at the Driver & Fairway Shaft Comparison chart to see how the various shaft offerings stack up with regards to launch & spin, plus the additional info with all of the various shafts and their specs. This is a great way to see what is available that may work for you.
The items they should tell you at the fitting are club head speed, ball speed, launch angle and spin (back spin and side spin). They should also be able to tell you if you have a positive or negative angle of attack (is club head hitting down on the ball, hitting up on the ball or hitting level on the ball).
Best of luck with getting fit with the best shaft/head combination for you!

I would keep your mind open, outside of flex (R, S, X etc..) I would not close out any options since you can adjust the shaft to match a stronger or weaker lofted driver head depending on your desired lauch, trajectory and optimum distance...
I was surprised when I was at Titleist's Tour Testing Facility (Oceanside, TPI) a couple months ago how much play there is between shafts and heads. I discovered that the ideal shaft for me was one that I had initially thought would not be best for my swing.
Good Luck!

Hank, My tech rep suggested the Diamana red board 50 in reg. flex for me . I'm 64 and after playing 13 rds. with it, I LOVE IT! As for asking questions I'd say ''fire-away. Being informed never hurts. The person doing the fitting should ask you alot of questions, like what are looking for distance or forgiveness, what do you have now,and so on. Have fun and be sure to let us know how it went and what you end up with. steve b

Hi Hank,
I just bought a 915D/10.5-degree with a stock Mitsubishi Diamana S+60 shaft. Stiff flex. It supposed to have a lower kick point to get more launch angle and club head speed. At least that's what the guy at Edwin Watts said.
It's really hard to tell when you're hitting into a net in the store. Unfortunately, it's really hard to find a Titleist dealer here in Jacksonville where you can hit outdoors.
Anyway, I took the standard shaft and will play with it a few rounds to see if I want to upgrade to a different type. That will be the real test.
I'd say my biggest question would be what is their upgrade/exchange policy in case you want to try a different loft/shaft combination down the road.

I qualify for that senior category also (68 years young). I went to a certified fitter and fitted with the Aldila Black Rogue 70 stiff shaft with a 915D2 head set at 10.25......My club head speed is around 93 and ball speed is 133........my launch speed is around 2200......I do not think age is the factor as much as the individual being properly fit.......ensuring that you get a certified fitter who is willing to spend at least an hour with you and let you try all combinations, both heads and all the shafts, is the key.......I'm sure they asked you to bring in your old driver so they can do some comparisons.......the ground is damp and it is chilly here and I am hitting it around 240-250.....and the thing that I like is the accurancy.....it is an awesome club.....I hit mine better on the course than on the monitor....there is always an adjustment period for any new club....good luck with your fitting....I have a lot of confidence in my fitter, because he has been doing this for many years and he is the best in the lowcountry. If you are going to play the best equipment, look for the best fitter you can find.
