    Hi,

So it's been a year since I ordered my custom fit AP2s (5-PW) with Project X 6.0 stiff shafts.

These are without a doubt the best clubs I have ever owned, but I have a problem.  I cannot for the life of me hit the 5i consistently.

I hit every other club really well.  In fact, my 6i is probably my favorite club in the bag (aside from my 913H).

Could something be wrong with the club? I mean, hitting all my other clubs well kind of lead me to believe this.  If so, what could be the problem?

    Thanks!

    Jorge,

I'm no expert however I was having the same issue at the start of last season.

When I went to get fitted for my driver I also want my irons lie and lofts checked. We ended up making the lies 1 degree upright, we found my 5 iron was 2 degrees down! Once it was bent to 1 degree up, matching the other irons, I started to consistently hit it again.

I highly suggest having the lie lofts checked. I hope this helps!

Like I said, I'm no expert, maybe someone else can provide a more technical explanation?

    Regards,

    Bill

If the club specs check out ok, there is a 27 degree hybrid option for a 5I. I flip between the 2 depending on the course/depth of rough and how well the 5I listens to me on the warm-up range.
  4. I have been experimenting since  I saw one popular PGA Tour Pro using a 712U five iron with his AP2's.  I basically ordered a 712U four iron and had it made to the length of my five iron and had Titleist adjust the loft two degrees weak which puts the specs and bounce at my AP2 five iron.  It has been a great club thus far however I am still experimenting...

    Just a thought, Good Luck!

You could try mixing in an AP1 5 iron.

    what is the issue exactly?

i would go to a local golf shop and get the loft/lie checked. perhaps even shaft frequency.

Same here with the five iron.  Find that I am a little older, 68 and when I try to jump on it, it has a natural tendency to go left.  My set is a matched fitted set of AP2s, up 1* +1".  When I go at it with about a 80% swing and hit it a little more forward I have better results.  Has helped a little.   Normally play from Senior tees so do not use it much so that could be a contributing factor for me as well.  When I put it on a tee, better results, swing easier.

It basically boils down to inconsistent contact and inconsistent trajectory.  I mentioned that I hit the 6i incredibly well, with 80-85% of my shots being extremely consistent in terms of trajectory, direction and distance.

At this point I'm not sure if the issue is psychological or otherwise, what I do know is that even when I feel like I flushed my 5i, I don't get the distance I need.  I had the loft/lie checked this weekend and it was the correct 2 degrees upright and 27 degrees of loft, so not sure what else could be going on.
