  1. I'm considering the AP1's and the Gap wedge (W1) which is 48 degrees. Is there a world of difference between getting the AP1 (W2) at 52 degrees or jump into a Vokey 52 with a particular grind? My go to wedge will be a Vokey 58 with M grind. I use the 52 a lot for full shots, not just greenside rescue.

Go see a fitter and get properly set up for your wedges!  He is the person you really need to be talking to.  With respect.  cz  :-)

    Hi Thom,

I believe there is a pretty big difference between the AP1 gap wedge and a vokey (gap) wedge. The topline of the club will be the biggest difference and most likely the sole. With the AP1 gap wedge, you are limited to whatever design it comes with, the stock sole, grind, etc. You can do some minor tweaks, such as customize the shaft, grip and loft and lie like any other club.

But with a Vokey club, the topline will be a lot thinner and you will have a couple of more options for bounce and grinds. But with a gap wedge, there aren't that as many options as the SW and LW, since most SW and LW's are designed to do more.

Go to the store and compare the AP1 gap wedge and a Vokey wedge and see what you like better, but you will notice the difference.

    Cheers!

I had to make the same decision. I tried using the Vokey 50 bent to a 48, 56 & 56 combo and found the 52 just wasn't cutting it (pun intended) So I went back to the AP1 Gap wedge, 54 degree Vokey and 60 degree Vokey which has worked out really well. I find that I use the 54 much more often than the Gap with good results.

I am a believer if being fitted.  I have AP2s and my PW is set up a bit strong at 45* with my next two wedges being Vokeys.  A 50.8* and a 56.11*.  I had a 60.07* and sold it, because it takes a lot of game for this club and most people do not put enough time in at the range to be proficient with it.   The main thing is know you clubs and what yardage you hit them.   Don't get hung up on numbers.  Learn to hit the clubs and trust those clubs.  As Cathi has pointed out, bending the clubs will effect the bounce of the clubs.   Cheers, CZ
