I bought a set of fitted 714 AP1's when they came out in 2014, and I love them, I've gone from a 25 to a 15 and I'm thinking about adding some AP2's in to my set for a bit more feel in the shorter irons (I love the feel of my SM5 Vokeys 48, 52 & 56)

My plan is to keep my 4-6 as AP1 and go to 7-P in AP2, my question is, with the different lofts between AP1 and AP2, will my gap between 6-7 be to big and will I lose distance with AP2's?  Currently my AP1 7 iron carries 170, it is 1/2" long, 2 degrees up, standard loft of 32 degrees and a KBS Tour S shaft. The 716 AP2 7 iron loft is 34 degrees, I would assume I'd get the same fitting specs and shafts as  my AP1's

    Any advice appreciated!

Newer club, newer technology and your game has changed also.  Ten strokes is a big change.  I would recommend considering a new fitting.   If yoy have a fitter in your area that you truly trust, call him/her and see what they say.  I know they are in the business to make ends meet, but my fitter will not sell you something you do not need and that is why he is the best in our area. People trust him and he stays busy.

    Dan,

Agree, with Chuck re fitting. That said, I found my new 716 AP2's more forgiving than 714. Especially the 5-7 iron, must be something to do with added Tungsten. The ball flight is higher, and dispersion narrowed. I actually gained 5 yards with the 716 AP2's, vrs the 714s. Good luck, and spend some time with a fitter on a launch monitor.

When I had a similar combo set, I had my AP1 6 iron bent (weakened) one degree, and my AP2s bent one degree stronger (7i down) to close the distance gap between the 6 and the 7.

Keep in mind, the AP1 swingweights are D1 (standard) and the AP2s are D2.

Don't be afraid to go all AP2, though.  The new 716s are a giant leap forward from previous generations, especially forgiveness-wise, with the addition of the tungsten perimeter weighting.  Your game will benefit from the added feedback of playing a forged iron, as well.

Try hitting your AP1 5 iron alongside the new AP2 5 iron.  I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
