I am under the impression that Titleist irons are meant for the better player with a lower handicap.  I play png irons and rescues as they are a game improvement iron.  My set is G20.  Titles have a nice chrome look.   I am a high teens index, are there tireless clubs I should look at?  Any advice appreciated.

Hello Pony, Take it from me (High Handicapper), Go hit them give them a try. I had a mix bag of clubs. Then one day I hit the Titleist 913 driver!!!! I was sold. Over a year and half span I replaced all my woods with Titleist (To be fair I did go hit several other manufacture products also). I completed the transformation this past fall and was fitted for the 716 AP1 irons. I went with 5 to PW and I have Vokey 46, 52, and 58 degree wedges. I almost finished off by adding the 8161 21 degree hybrid.....But I wasn't done yet. I decided to try a Scotty Cameron putter....this makes my bag complete. I went from a ody putter to a Scotty X7M putter which I love. All that said you should still get fitted and always compare but Titleist isn't just for the Pro anymore they have come a long way reaching people of my skill level. Hope this helps and good luck my friend #TT #TeamTitleist

Hey there, Pony.  Might go see a fitter and ask to see the 716 AP1s.  All reports are good and supposed to have a great look and very forgiving.  But again, see a fitter so that you can get the right shaft.  Also on the hybrids, Titleist has some awesome, if you had seen my profile on the other site you will notice I have three and love them.  The 915 and 816's are awesome.  Might want to check those out as well.  Again, fitting is essential so you get the right set up and the right shaft for your degree of play.  I gamed png, Wilson Staff, cally irons, png, TM, Wilson Staff, Muzino, cally Drivers and Fairways, and Adams, Nicket Hybrids before settling on Titleist 100%.  Also used png and cally putters, and Wedges by Wilson Staff, cally, png and Cleveland.  I made the right change.  Cheers and the very same, ChuckZ.....

Chuck, I'm a 10 hc been playing Titleist for 10 years. I'm on my second set of Titleist clubs. I've lowered my hc from 20+ playing Titleist.  I would look at the ap1 or ap2 iron but the most important thing it to get fit by a quality fitter and not at an indoor simulator. God luck I'm sure you will love Titleist

Todd, I am a 100% Titleist guy and FJ Ambassador.  I currently play 714 AP2s with XP95 stiff shafts, 5-PW, 915D2, 913F, 915H2, 816H1, 913h, SM4 50.08, SM5 56.10 and Scotty Cameron Notchback Select and Play a Prov1.  Bag is Titleist and clothes and shoes are all FJ.  I too have been playing Titleist for a few years and love their products and customer service.  At 69 I need all the help I can use.  Thanks for the recommendation though.  This is my third set of Titleist clubs.  One of my good friends is a Titleist certified fitter and he has an indoor simulator and is a top 100 fitter and does an outstanding job.  I trust his fittings, but I also use the other Titleist fitter in the area when he is in town doing a demo day at one of the local clubs.  I trust both of these fitters and their knowledge.  They have worked well for me in the past.   I guess that I am fortunate to have two great fitters to work with when I need assistance.

Hey Pony, I can tell you from experience. I player G20's when I first started playing golf and then moved up to the G25 and they were fine sticks. My first Titleist club was a 913 d2 driver and it was no problem, I now have the 915 D2 in the my Titleist mid sized staff bag. A little over a year ago I traded in the G25's for a new set of AP1 714's (4-GW), got fitted for them. I can tell you that if you can game the G20 you will have no problem with AP1's, if you have a high teens index I would recommend that you look strongly at them, the AP1 can be played from beginners to low cappers. Even some of the guys on tour have been know to have AP1 long irons in the bag. I now am completely Titleist all the way, the feel of them is awesome, be sure to go to a certified fitter. You  will not be disappointed. Hope this helps. Titleist now makes things easy for the beginner and the mid handicapper play the best equipment on the planet, and customer service is second to none.

    Pony,

Before switching to Titleist, I too carried png in the bag and was playing a mid teen handicap. I would recommend giving the AP1's a serious look. But before buying see a certified fitter so you know for sure exactly what setup you need, Since coming over to Titleist I have dropped to 10 handicap and hope to break single digits this year. And I promise you won't find a better customer service experience anywhere I am 100% Titleist now and can't see any reason to ever leave. Good Luck

Definitely check out the 716 AP1s.  Very long and very forgiving.  Just make sure that you get properly fitted.

The AP1-716 irons are as good as Game-Improvement irons get. And if you ask here, we are all Titleist loyalists, so even though we would be right about how fantastic Titleist irons are, don't take it from us. Just read the reviews everywhere. Not just the professional reviews, but the ones from mid-handicap customers at Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, PGA Superstore, and the like.

Obviously get fitted.  I can't speak for AP1's, but in my opinion, anyone should be able to hit AP2's.

    Hi Pony,

That's a great question and to be honest, I think Titleist does a great job making clubs to fit everyone's needs. Png might have the appeal to most consumers as a game improvement club, but they also have clubs for lower-handicap players (i-series and S-series irons). But Titleist has clubs that will fit everyone, from the beginner (AP1) to tour pro (T-MB, MB, CB, AP2 & AP1). As many have said already, the best thing is to go and get fitted and see what fits your swing and what you want to accomplish.

You said that you are a high-teens handicap, you might think that you need "game improvement" clubs (AP1), but you might be surprised with how easy even the AP2s are to hit. Have you ever tried Titleist irons or clubs before?

The best thing about it is that after you get fitted, you can essentially order your set make-up to be whatever you want. You can order a straight set of one kind of irons or even do a combo, say AP2s in the lower irons and then AP1s in the longer irons.

I'm about a 12-handicap and I play a combo set of Titleist irons. I play 716 MBs in 6-PW and AP2s in the 4 & 5 iron and then a 3-hybrid. I even think their MBs are easy to hit and I really like the way they look at address.

You need to play whatever fits your game, but also makes you confident when you stand up to the ball.

Let us know what you think after you try them out and what you get.

Thanks for all the replies.  I have not ever hit Titleist clubs and am hoping to maybe do so when I am in Florida.  The course has had T demo days in past years when I have been down there so hopefully they do again this year.  If not I will wait till golf here in WI come april.   I have always been fitted for my Pings either with my local pro or at the png factory.  P came out with new irons and Being on the FJ community site I see a lot of guys play Titleist.  So I figured I'd look into both.  I believe my pro shop is going to start carrying Titleist next season as well as P and a few other brands.  I play ProV1 balls for the last few years and recently tried the DT Trusaoft ball.

FJC has steered you In the right direction, Pony.  A Titleist fitter will set you up with the right head and shaft to fit your swing and game.  How did you like the new DT Trusoft Ball?  I too play the Prov1 ball, but picked up a dozen at Christmas for those few cold days that we have in Charleston, when I need a low compression ball.  I like the softness of the ball and it performs well.  Good luck with your potential changeover in the spring and glad the we have been able to guide you.  Chuck, FJA.

Looks like we're almost neighbors. I last had some G10 irons purchased off the internet and they didn't fit. Being LH and not young, I didn't like the effort the stores gave to fit me. By accident I went to Cherokee CC which is a Titleist Advanced Fitting Center. We started with G20 and ended up with 712 AP1, and the rest is history. Travis fits outdoors from mats in the shed until the ground is dry enough to hit from. You will be happy if you go there.

I bought the AP1'1 last year and couldn't be happier. Great Sticks, with a sweet feel when you hit them good.  I highly recommend them. Get fitted you'll be glad you did.

    Hi Pony,

I've played with G10s with standard regular shafts for the last few years and was looking for a new more modern set. I had a fitting at my local Titleist center convinced I would fit the 716 AP2 bracket. The numbers on Flightscope however suggested the 716 AP2 was more beneficial which I picked up today.

I had a problem with excessive height on the the Png so was fitted for a lower flight with DG AMT R300 shafts. The weather is foul here in the UK at the moment but I thoroughly enjoyed the AP1s this afternoon and I'm so pleased I bought them. I'm getting approximately 10-15 yards on each club with arrow accuracy. Just got to work out my distances now.

Go and see your local fitter and have some great golf.

Agree with others that have suggested AP1's.  Awesome clubs that provide the game improvement features that are beneficial to a wide range of skills.

Love the feel that they provide.  When I hit an off center shot, they tell me--but without sacrificing distance or accuracy. When I want to work the ball, I can.

Been playing AP's since 2008 and have yet to find a better performing iron.

    Try 'em.  You'll love 'em.
