Hey! I was just wondering if it would be better to buy a utility iron instead of a hybrid. I asked the assistant professional at my home club and said it would be a lot better if I had a hybrid because of a larger sweet spot for a person with a handicap (10.9). Thanks!!!!!

I think I would listen to the advice of a professional.  Have you hit both to see which you hit best?  I carry three hybrids in my bag because I can hit them better than long irons.  This is based on advice of professionals and fittings.

  4. Conor W, I have never hit the utility iron but I use the hybrids. In my opinion, they are the best club that has been invented! Very versatile. I have 915's now but I can't wait until my club gets the new 816's in!!! Give them a "test drive" and you may be surprised!!!!! steve b

    Grindelwald,

Always good to listen to your professinal, he surely knows what he is talking about.

But just give them a try and see which you prefer.

Hybrid all day. Purchasing my #4 hybrid is the best move I made.  I don't even have a 3 or a 5 in my bag

How well do you hit your long irons??? This is usually a pretty good indicator of how well you might hit the utility iron. But the best bet is to hit them both side by side if possible with a qualified fitter.

Absolutely- I agree... go get fitted. You may need a hybrid in the end, but it would be better to see and be fitted.

I have tried both and I can tell you for me there was no comparison, the hybrid was easier to hit and provided me better distance.  The biggest fact became the confidence with the hybrid in my hands, I feel like I will never miss my target with he hybrid.

Hi Conner I have just been fitted at the fitting centre in Scotland and came away with one of each! The 915 hybrid No2 and the 716 Tmb 4 iron both very easy to hit but advice would be try them both and get fitted

I fought buying a hybrid for years but I'm a convert now.  It would be great to be able to hit a utility iron consistently and the feeling you get from them when you do connect is better, but there is no escaping the fact the hybrid is going to give me better results on average, by quite a margin I suspect.  I've still got the 4 iron in the bag though!

I do tend to hit the ball high though.  Thinking of trying the 816 H2 for a lower flight.  Anyone got their hands on one yet?
