In the recent year, I have taken several lessons and put in timely practice to drop my handicap down from a 9 to a 6. My AP2 714 irons have been money for me, but i am having trouble controlling flight with my true temper s300 stiff shafts, or is it the shaft? My swing plane is steeper than most due to my height. What would be some shaft suggestions?

I have KBS Tour in my AP2 714 irons. They certainly have a different feel. I tried KBS Tour shafts with my previous AP2 irons and really didn't like them but was fitted for them in the 714s. Based on this change, my best suggestion would be to go through a fitting to identify the proper shaft. I think it's also important to have an open mind when getting fitted and not have the mindset of purchasing a specific shaft or brand. It shaft can be the most expensive or the best for someone else but if it doesn't work for you it isn't worth anything. Best of luck.

    Randy,

My advice is for you to get with a Titleist certified fitter and check your swing. A lower handicap like yours should mean a decent swing. Let them test you and try some options to control your flight.
I personally have gone from S300 690MB's to KBS Tour AP2 710's to S400 AP2 714's. To control my ball flight. This progression has allowed me to get the right flight path.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

I had played DGS300 and png ZZlite Stiff shafts all of my life. When I decided to replace my 30 yr old Pings, I trialed some of the new Ben Hogan Ft Worths with KBS Tour V 110 Stiff and 120 X-Stiff. They felt pretty good, but what I noticed was that I felt I had tighter dispersion with the X-stiff. But I still hit those pretty high, so I consulted the Titleist shaft comparison chart, which compares launch and spin. I then realized that DG is at the bottom left of the chart, just where I wanted to be. I have since acquired some AP2 714's with DGX100 and couldn't be happier with the feel or ball flight. With a 6 HDCP, you probably swing it hard enough to handle the X-stiff, so start with the Titleist chart and see where you want to be in terms of launch and spin, and go from there trying different shafts. Best of luck.

Maybe C Taper - find them a little more stable

I just ordered 716 MB with the TT Dynamic Gold AMT S300 which seems better for me
