The primary purpose of the weight is for adjusting swing weight of the club. Adding weight will make the club feel heavier when swinging it, but probably would not add distance.

Adding weight to the club head will make the shaft play "whippier". I changed out the weight on my 913 D3, went with the 12gm weight. My swing speed was between a reg and stiff shaft. The extra weight allowed my to gain distance with the stiff flex shaft. About 10-15 yards. Its worth testing out, weights are cheap.
